Cherries as an Effective Natural Remedy for Gout

Gout is a type of arthritis caused by the excessive accumulation of uric acid inside the organism. In large amounts, uric acid forms crystals which deposit in various regions of the body, causing inflammation, pain and swelling of the joints. Uric acid is a waste product that results from purine metabolism. Although most cases of gout are hereditary, occurring due to genetically acquired renal dysfunctions which determine an inappropriate elimination of uric acid, gout is more likely to occur in people who consume large amounts of purine-rich foods. Thus, an appropriate diet and lifestyle improvements can successfully alleviate the symptoms of gout and can actually reverse the undesirable effects of the disease.

There are many natural products that can reduce serum uric acid concentration. Gout sufferers are advised to eat plenty of fiber-rich vegetables (preferably raw) and fresh fruits, as they contain low levels of purines and they are also a great source of vital nutrients. Among all fruits, cherries seem to be the best natural remedy for gout. Apart from being irresistibly delicious, cherries have anti-inflammatory, sedative and analgesic properties, and they can considerably ameliorate the clinical manifestations of gout. A frequent intake of cherries can considerably reduce the duration and the intensity of gout attacks, by normalizing uric acid levels inside the body. Recent studies have revealed that by including cherries in their diet, gout sufferers are able to eliminate more uric acid through urine. Thus, cherries act as a purgative agent, aiding the process of excretion.

Both sweet cherries (dark cherries) and sour cherries (ruby-red cherries) have proved to be very benefic for gout sufferers. Sweet cherries contain few calories and are rich in natural fibers. Sweet cherries contain melatonin, a chemical that has sedative and analgesic effects. Thus, the intake of sweet cherries can also ease recurrent gout pain. In addition, this type of cherries contains a powerful natural antioxidant that acts similarly to vitamin C. Sweet cherries can also lower the levels of inflammatory substances such as nitric oxide and C-reactive protein, chemicals that are related to gout, diabetes and heart disease.

Sour cherries seem to reduce gout pain and inflammation and they also contain natural antioxidants that can decongest the arteries clogged with uric acid crystals. Sour cherries are rich in vitamin A, they contain very few calories and they can be safely introduced in any gout diet. Recent studies have revealed that by consuming around 100 grams of cherries each day, gout sufferers can experience a rapid amelioration of their symptoms. Although it is best to consume them raw, cherries can also be introduced in various recipes. Thanks to their remarkable qualities, cherries should be included in any diet.

Mesotherapy

Mesotherapy is a form of treatment that involves injecting tiny amounts of a substance into the mesoderm, which is the layer of fat and connective tissue directly below the skin. It is thought that the injection of certain substances can either dissolve underlying fat, or cause healing by other mechanisms. Mesotherapy has been used in France and other European countries since the middle of the 20th century to treat conditions such as obesity, hair loss, sports injuries, and certain diseases of the circulation. It has only recently caught on in the US as a form of treatment for cellulite and localized fat.

The exact substance injected under the skin depends on what condition is being treated. Natural compounds, synthetic drugs, local anesthetics, and vitamins may be injected; these are thought to dissolve underlying fat and thereby cause weight loss. A tiny needle is used to inject the substance, making this a less painful treatment than conventional injections with larger needles. Multiple treatment sessions are usually needed. A single session may cost up to $600 or more, and may include special diet and exercise plans.

At present, Mesotherapy is considered a form of alternative medicine in the United States, and is somewhat controversial. Mesotherapy practitioners and patients often claim excellent weight loss results in as little as four or five treatment sessions. However, Mesotherapy treatments are empiric, and currently lack concrete scientific evidence of how exactly they work. Critics of Mesotherapy are unsure whether the weight loss reported by advocates is attributable to the treatment itself or to lifestyle changes.

In the US, the practice of Mesotherapy is largely restricted to trained and licensed physicians, such as plastic surgeons. However, no license is currently required to be a mesotherapist. It is therefore important for anyone considering Mesotherapy to find out what substance is being injected, how many treatments are required, and what potential side effects may occur.

Mesotherapy provides detailed information about mesotherapy, cost of mesotherapy, mesotherapy before and after, mesotherapy injections and more. Mesotherapy is the sister site of Mesothelioma Doctors Info.

Allergies: Indentifying Your Triggers

Your home is a busy place. People are constantly working, cooking, playing, cleaning, washing and moving things around. That kind of activity is completely normal, but it can generate small particles and chemicals that accumulate in the air you breathe. Whether your home is large or small, old or new, the interior air could be causing breathing problems, in particular for people with allergies and asthma.

There are simple things that you can put in place to clean up the air inside your home, so that everyone can breathe easier. If you have allergies or asthma, you are sensitive to particular ?triggers?. These ?triggers? can ignite a reaction in your lungs and other parts of your body. Triggers may be found indoors and outdoors. They may be simple things like:

  • Illnesses?colds and influenza

  • Tobacco smoke and wood smoke from the fireplace

  • Allergens such as dust mites, cockroaches, pollen, molds, animal dander, tiny scales or particles from hair, feathers, or dead skin cells and saliva from pets

  • Perfumes, paint, hair spray, or any other strong odors or fumes

It is important to identify your triggers. This isn?t always easy, so you should experiment by staying away from one suspected trigger at a time. You can tell if it is a problem if you see improvement when it is removed. It is much more difficult to control your triggers outdoors. So, if the air pollution and pollen levels are high, it is an excellent idea to stay indoors. The air in your home is easier for you to control. In some cases, people with asthma and allergies become aware that their symptoms deteriorate at night. Controlling triggers in the bedroom is the best place to start.

There are air cleaning machines that you may purchase that can eradicate some of the triggers in your home. Unfortunately, they will not remove them all. Some air cleaners utilize an electrical charge that makes ozone, which many manufacturers claim will ?purify? the air. Sadly, ozone irritates the lungs, and is a particular problem for people with asthma. The American Lung Association does not recommend the use of air cleaners that produce ozone, and is printed in their brochure, ?Facts about home control of allergies and asthma.? They advise that you look for a mechanical air cleaner with a HEPA, or preferably a hyper-HEPA filter, that does not produce ozone and can efficiently trap large and small particles.

Hormones and Breast Cancer: What Is the Connection?

Breast cancer has become a major health issue for women in North America. The rate of breast cancer has increased by 1 per cent a year since 1940.

In our country, a woman dies of breast cancer every 12 minutes! It has become the most common cancer-related cause of death in women. World-wide about 1,670,000 women have breast cancer. Our risk of surviving malignant breast cancer is just about the same as it was 50 years ago, when the only treatment was mastectomy; about one in three. The incidence of breast cancer is steadily rising and the numbers are appalling. Between 1973-1998 the incidence of breast cancer rose by over 40%.

October is a month where women of all ages and stages of life will join together and wear pink ribbons to remind us of the seriousness of Breast Cancer and to remember those, whose lives it has touched. We become advocates for more grass roots education like self-breast exams as well as for more research to be done and a cure for breast cancer be found.

However, if I had my wish every pink ribbon would carry an additional message for women. That message would be that ?YOU can improve your breast health and reduce the risk of breast cancer right now!?

We need to ask ourselves ?What am I doing to truly become aware about breast cancer and preventing it within my own body?? Wearing a pink ribbon is simply not enough.

We are now learning that Breast cancer is likely a result of hormonal imbalances. Specifically they are a result of excess estrogen or Estrogen Dominance. Estrogen dominance describes a condition where a woman can have deficient, normal, or excessive estrogen but has little or no progesterone to balance its effects in the body. Even a woman with low estrogen levels can have estrogen-dominance symptoms if she doesn't have any progesterone

The Johns Hopkins University conducted a 20 year study, published in 1983 in the American Journal of Epidemiology, showing that women who had good progesterone levels had less than a fifth of the amount of breast cancer. The outcomes suggested that having a normal level of progesterone in balance with normal levels of estrogens protected women from nine-tenths of all cancers that might otherwise have occurred?.. in other words hormones in balance.

The Million Women Study of whom about half used or had used HRT(synthetic hormones consisting of estrogen with a synthetic progestin), indicated for the first time that the increased Breast Cancer risk started between one and two years of HRT use, dashing any suggestion that increased cancer risk only developed after long-term use. But the risks grew larger the longer the HRT treatment continued.

What many women do not realize is that we don?t just ?GET? hormones as we approach menopause. Women suffer from hormone challenges in their teen years while women in their 70?s and 80?s can still be suffering hormonal challenges. Hormonal imbalance does not only produce cancer in women but can manifest itself with symptoms such as: PMS, Mood swings, PCOS, Endometriosis, weight gain, menstrual headaches, heavy bleeding or irregular cycles and infertility.

We may not be able to our genetic risk factors for Breast Cancer- that is true. However, a growing body of research is showing us that women really can make a difference in their breast health through becoming better informed about how our body makes hormones, understanding about hormonal imbalance and then learning some natural alternatives to deal with out of balance hormones.

Evaluating hormone levels using saliva testing is one way to know if our health challenges are connected to hormone issues. A saliva test kit is inexpensive and can be used in the privacy of our own homes. What a small price to pay to have the peace of mind knowing if your hormone levels are in balance! Taking the test results to our health care practitioner and asking them to work with us toward hormone balance would be a natural ?next step.?

I feel that women need to have all the information presented to them on the hormone issue so that they can make a well informed choice as to which path they would like to travel down in order to bring balance to their hormones. It is my goal that in October 2006 women across this country will wear pink ribbons knowing that there are things that they can do to improve their health and reduce their risk for breast cancer. Knowledge is power!!

Treatment Pharmaceutical or Holistic?

All treatment based on pharmaceutical products proceeds from the study and treatment of symptoms, categorised pretty much in isolation as evidence of separate diseases.

Western medicine has built a vast repertory of observed symptoms, and a vast array of unnatural products tailored by chemical companies to prevent these symptoms from manifesting. We even have comparatively simple conditions, like heartburn, being labelled as diseases to bring them within the scope of the prescription drugs industry.

The word ?cure? is a misnomer when applied to drugs and disease. Drugs suppress symptoms, which are the body's way of ridding itself of underlying illness. This drives the problem deeper into the tissues for the cells to cope with in some other way, which leads to big trouble at a later date. Drugs may offer a quick fix, but the price paid in side effects and long-term illness is enormous, affecting both quality and length of life.

Published ?causes of death? statistics are many and varied. You will never find among them a figure for the thousands of people whose lifespan and quality of life are slowly destroyed by pharmaceutical drugs. When their lives end, cause of death is simply recorded as the ?disease? they were being treated for, or one of its ?side effects?.

What Holistic Really Means

While modern western medicine excels at treating emergencies and injury, it has lost the plot completely when it comes to treating illness and disease. All disease manifestations are the result of the same basic dis-ease condition of the body. In reality, before the rise of drugs, many natural treatments were used successfully for centuries to set the body's chemistry to rights.

These methods were intended to restore the body?s correct pH, supply the nutrients required to correct the underlying imbalance in the body tissues, return the body to proper health, and so enable it to deal with whatever symptoms were present.

The diseases mindset obscures the fact that all symptoms are manifestations of an underlying defective condition of the whole body caused by -

? Inadequate nutrition resulting in a weakened body structure (at both tissue and cellular levels) and decreased immune function; and

? External factors such as toxins and stress.

It is true that the body has countless ways of manifesting sickness. The reason diseases seem so many and varied is because -

? Each body breaks down at its weakest link - and in each individual that weakest link will be determined by heredity (genetic factors) and nutrition (eating habits);

? Each individual experiences toxins or stresses peculiar to his or her own lifestyle (e.g. cigarette smoke, asbestos fibers, timber treatment chemicals or whatever). These toxins and stresses can produce different effects on the system.

When one realises that our categorized diseases are simply varied manifestations of an imbalance in the body chemistry, it becomes easier to understand what holistic medicine and treatment is about.

Body pH and Organic Nutrients

Body pH is the indicator of the acid-alkaline condition of the blood. It is the most important single factor to be corrected before healing can proceed. This can be achieved in a number of ways, but primarily by avoiding acid-producing foods, correcting mineral deficiencies, and supplying the correct balance of healthy foods.

The following foods are the worst culprits in producing acid reactions in the body and are the cause of much illness and disease in the western world: white flour, white sugar, common salt, soft drinks, artificial colorings and flavourings, over-consumption of red meat and animal fats, hydrogenated fats, deep-fried fats, alcohol, and cigarette smoking.

Consider the average western diet and you will realise why illness and disease are rampant killers in the west, where many people's daily food consumption comprises almost exclusively the above products. Consider also that in many third-world countries the introduction of the western diet has been followed by a rising incidence of western disease.

Rebuilding and Healing

The holistic approach to healing starts by avoiding all foods that produce acid conditions in the body. Many of these foods are so lacking in nutritive value that they deplete the body?s vitamins, minerals and enzymes. The body has to dig into its own store to find the elements necessary for digestion, and very often, because of the poor state of our food today, that store has reached rock bottom.

In supplying what our bodies really need for the rebuilding and healing processes, the prime consideration is usability. Minerals are the body?s ground-floor building blocks and recent research now shows that mineral supplements MUST be supplied in a form the body can utilise. This is not found in pulverized rock, or in colloidal minerals. In both of these, the particle size is simply too large for our cells to utilise efficiently. The maximum our cells can derive from these sources is about 3%. The unused residue of these minerals is dumped somewhere in the system, where it adds to the burden the body is already carrying.

What our cells really need is organic (i.e. angstrom sized) minerals - because these are what the body was designed to use. The organic, angstrom particle size is actually 10,000 times smaller than a micron.

Minerals in plants and fruits are naturally angstrom sized, and this is the reason why so many of today's natural plant formulations are helping people with health problems.

You will notice that all of these natural products have one element in common ? they are not the end product of our modern agricultural systems. This is because the depleted nature of our agricultural soils can no longer provide the minerals and trace minerals our bodies need in the quality and proportions they were designed for. Without a single exception, all of these new products are derived either from the sea, or from virgin soils that still retain their life-giving nutrients.

This is a huge lesson that we need to learn, and learn quickly. Unnatural chemicals are destroying our world, and they are destroying us.

Herbal Medicine in Our Daily Life

Herbal Medicine, sometimes referred to as Herbalism or Botanical Medicine, is the use of herbs for their therapeutic or medicinal value. An herb is a plant or plant part valued for its medicinal, aromatic or savory qualities. Herb plants produce and contain a variety of chemical substances that act upon the body.

Herbal medicine is the oldest form of healthcare known to mankind. Herbs had been used by all cultures throughout history. It was an integral part of the development of modern civilization. Primitive man observed and appreciated the great diversity of plants available to him. The plants provided food, clothing, shelter, and medicine. Much of the medicinal use of plants seems to have been developed through observations of wild animals, and by trial and error. As time went on, each tribe added the medicinal power of herbs in their area to its knowledgebase. They methodically collected information on herbs and developed well-defined herbal pharmacopoeias. Indeed, well into the 20th century much of the pharmacopoeia of scientific medicine was derived from the herbal lore of native peoples. Many drugs commonly used today are of herbal origin. Indeed, about 25 percent of the prescription drugs dispensed in the United States contain at least one active ingredient derived from plant material. Some are made from plant extracts others are synthesized to mimic a natural plant compound.

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that 4 billion people, 80 percent of the world population, presently use herbal medicine for some aspect of primary health care. Herbal medicine is a major component in all indigenous peoples? traditional medicine and a common element in Ayurvedic, homeopathic, naturopathic, traditional oriental, and Native American Indian medicine. WHO notes that of 119 plant-derived pharmaceutical medicines, about 74 percent are used in modern medicine in ways that correlated directly with their traditional uses as plant medicines by native cultures. Major pharmaceutical companies are currently conducting extensive research on plant materials gathered from the rain forests and other places for their potential medicinal value. Substances derived from the plants remain the basis for a large proportion of the commercial medications used today for the treatment of heart disease, high blood pressure, pain, asthma, and other problems. For example, ephedra is a herb used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for more than two thousand years to treat asthma and other respiratory problems. Ephedrine, the active ingredient in ephedra, is used in the commercial pharmaceutical preparations for the relief of asthma symptoms and other respiratory problems. It helps the patient to breathe more easily.

Another example of the use of a herbal preparation in modern medicine is the Black cohosh. Originally used by the Indians of North America for dealing with such maladies as malaise, rheumatism, aches, pains, gynecological problems, as well as a host of others, Black Cohosh gained popularity with European settlers. It was used throughout the nineteenth century as a home remedy for ailments common to both males and females. The popularity of the plant spread to Europe, where it is still used extensively today.

Interest in the United States had been growing in the recent years from the reported success stories from the use of herbs. For example, St. John's Wort is widely used in the treatment of mild depression. St. John's Wort does not have the side effects. There are some Ayurvedic herbs that are very useful for reducing cholesterol, diabetes etc. Similarly the popularity of Ginseng and Ginkgo biloba (ginkgo) is rising due to its beneficial effects.

Scrub Away The Years Naturally!

When we are young, our body naturally sheds and renews skins cells. This gives teenage girls a natural glow that cannot be created by even the most expensive make-up. As we age, our skin cells don?t renew themselves as quickly and exfoliation becomes essential.

Exfoliation is actually the scrubbing away of dead skin cells. It is the true key to keeping your skin youthful. When dead skill cells stay too long on the surface of your skin four very bad things happen:

1.The dead skin cells block moisture from penetrating your skin
2.Your skin gets a dry and dull appearance ? even pasty at times
3.The dead skin cells can clog your pores and result in breakouts

And worst of all,

4.The dead skin cells on the surface actually slow down the renewal and regeneration of new skin cells underneath the surface skin layer.

Proper skin exfoliation can increase the renewal of fresher, younger looking skin cells by as much as 30%!

Our creator designed the body to automatically heal and renew itself. So, when you scrub away dead skin cells, your body is triggered to replace those cells with new cells. In Psalm 139, David says: ?I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made!?.

When your body makes new skin cells, it is also signaled to produce more collagen. Collagen is the connective tissue that plumps our skin. If you read any beauty magazine you will see many products claiming to replace loss collagen in your skin. This is important because collagen loss is the main reason our skin becomes drier and more wrinkled as we age.

To give you a feel for the difference collagen makes, take a look at the average man your age. Chances are his skin is a lot less wrinkled than yours. That is because men have roughly twenty five percent more collagen in their skin than women.

So now you know, exfoliating removes dead skin cells, causes your body to produce fresh new skin cells and collagen which is absolutely necessary for younger looking skin. But, there is more!

?Exfoliating opens up skin pores that are blocked by exposure to air pollution, air conditioning, dirt and grime from our fingertips. This gives you smaller skin pores and the appearance of more refined and even toned skin.

?When you exfoliate you also increase blood circulation to your face. Increasing the blood supply to your face is absolutely essential to prevent aging skin!

?Exfoliation removes the debris that blocks moisture from penetrating into the skin. So, after exfoliation, your skin will absorb more nutrients and moisture, your skin will appear clearer and fine lines will look softer. Very fine lines may actually disappear.

After I discovered the great benefits of exfoliating, I only had one question?

How do I exfoliate and how often can I exfoliate?

The way to exfoliate varies depending of the condition of your skin and your skin type. Washing vigorously is actually enough for some people. Others will need to exfoliate ? gently.

Younger women can exfoliate up to four times per week. After forty, I suggest once a week if your skin is still oily. If you have dry or sensitive skin, once every two to three weeks is best. And don?t forget ? when you exfoliate always think gentle.

Believe it or not, simple table sugar is one of the best exfoliates. It has fine grains for the gentlest removal of dead skin cells and is non-drying. Most importantly, sugar rinses completely away leaving your skin clean, smooth and rejuvenated. I recommend all natural organic sugar. You can find it these days at most grocery stores. It is chemical free and safe to use on your entire body. Here is all you need to do:

1.Always start with a clean face
2.Put a couple of tablespoons of water in your hand and mix it with a bit of your favorite mild liquid soap
3.Lightly wet your face, and put about a teaspoon of sugar in the palm of your hand
4.Dip the two middle fingers of your other hand (not the index finger) into the mix
5.Use a gentle, gliding circular motion over your entire face, neck and eye zone
6.Rinse well and pat dry
7.Look at your face, it should look rosy but not irritated

Note: Always rub your face in an upward motion. This will help to reposition fat deposits higher on your face giving it a ?lift? in appearance!

To wake up and nourish a really dull completion you can use a combination of raw oats and essential oil. This next exfoliating scrub is just as natural, healthy and effective as the sugar scrub.

Natural exfoliating scrub with essential oil

?Take 2 - 3 teaspoons raw oats (not the instant or pre-cooked type) and crush into smaller bits either by hand or in a grinder.

?Mix the dry oats with pure honey and 1/4 teaspoon of a red or apple cider vinegar until it forms a smooth paste. Add more honey as needed.

?Add 1 drop of basil oil to the mixture.

?Wash your face with a gentle soap (never use a deodorant soap or alkaline soap on your face).

?Rinse your face thoroughly with lukewarm water and pat dry with a towel.

?Apply the mixture in gentle circular movements. Avoid the area around your eye. You should leave the mixture on for about 15 minutes and then wash it off thoroughly with lukewarm water.

Although this treatment is not as neat as the sugar/lather treatment, the results are excellent and it costs only pennies to make.

If you have special problems like blackheads on your face, this next exfoliate is very effective.

Baking Soda Blackhead Remover

?Make up a mixture of ? part baking soda and ? part distilled water in the palm of your hand.

?Gently rub the mixture in circular motions on your skin for about 3 minutes

?Rinse with lukewarm water.

If you are a fan of the self-tan you can get really great results by giving yourself a facial and body scrub with baking soda!

This is gentle enough for even daily use.

Your freshly scrubbed face will absorb moisture and nutrients far better. You will look younger and face the world with a beautiful clean canvas!

Kriyas and Vamana Dhouti

A disease-free system should be the starting ground for yogasanas and pranayama. There are six specific cleansing techniques, known as Shat Kriyas, which eliminate impurities and help cure many ailments.

This is a process of cleansing the interior of the stomach. Drink four to six glasses of tepid water, with a little salt added to it, early in the morning on an empty stomach. Then stand up, bend forward, insert the middle and index fingers of the right hand into the mouth until they touch the uvulva. Tickle it until you feel a vomiting sensation. The saline water thus ejected will bring up bile and other toxic matter with it. Repeat the process till all the water is vomited out.

This should be done once a week or as and when necessary.

It is beneficial for cleansing the stomach in cases of excessive bile, constipation, and gastric troubles.

Persons suffering from hyperacidity should perform kunjal with unsalted water.

It gives relief from headaches, nervous weakness, chronic cold, cough and asthma.

It should not be practised by those suffering from high blood pressure, ulcers and heart trouble.

Back Pain and Massage Alternative Remedies

A hands-on approach to back pain can be a positive experience. Massage therapy can help reverse the vicious cycle of pain-spasm-pain associated with chronic back pain.

Massage and chiropractic therapy can provide many benefits to individuals suffering from mild or chronic back pain. These benefits include:

  • Circulation and blood pressure improvement.
  • Muscle tone improvement and the prevention of muscular atrophy due to illness or inactivity.
  • System detoxification through lymphatic drainage.
  • Joint flexibility improvement.
  • Stress reduction and a greater sense of well-being.
There are many different massage styles which can be applied to helping back pain. Each style depends on the individual's needs and preferences.

They include:

Swedish Massage: This method uses long, flowing strokes and kneading movements to relieve tension from the muscles. The practitioner helps improve circulation and back pain by working to loosen and relax the superficial layers of muscle.

Sports Massage: This method uses slow, hard strokes and deep, sustained finger pressure to work deeply into the contracted muscles, fascia and tendons. This technique keeps the body flexible, increases performance and assists in rehabilitation from injury and speeds up the healing process by reducing swelling.

Shiatsu: Shiatsu is Japanese for ?finger pressure.? Fingers, thumbs, palms, elbows and knees are all used to apply pressure to points along acupuncture meridians, which are believed to be the body's energy pathways. This method is used to help alleviate back pain and encourage blood and lymphatic flow.

Craniosacral Therapy: This therapy involves the craniosacral system, which extends from the skull to the bottom of the spine. The practitioner uses touch to restore cerebrospinal fluid movement. This method can be used to treat such conditions as headaches, ear and eye problems as well as back pain and even whiplash.

Not all techniques work in all situations. Be sure to know the philosophy and style of your massage therapist before you begin. If your massage or massage technique doesn't help alleviate your pain, try another practitioner.

Malignant Mesothelioma

Malignant mesothelioma is a rare cancer in which malignant or cancerous cells form in the thin layers of tissue lining the human chest, heart or abdomen. When the cancer is in the chest, it affects the pleura or tissue lining the lungs and is called malignant pleural mesothelioma. This is the most common type of mesothelioma. In the abdomen, a cancer of the peritoneum or tissue lining the abdominal cavity and covering various organs is called malignant peritoneal mesothelioma. The least common form of mesothelioma affects the pericardium, or outer lining of the heart. The term mesothelioma literally means a growth of the mesothelium, a layer of tissue from which the pleura, peritoneum and pericardium all develop.

The majority of malignant mesotheliomas occur in people who have been exposed to asbestos, either directly or via people they live with. Avoiding exposure to asbestos can largely prevent malignant mesotheliomas. Depending on the location of the cancer, someone with malignant mesothelioma may have one or more of the following symptoms: breathlessness, pain under the rib cage or in the abdomen, an abdominal lump or swelling, and unexplained weight loss.

If a detailed medical history and physical exam suggests malignant mesothelioma as a possible diagnosis, a variety of diagnostic tests may be performed, including blood tests, x-rays, MRIs, CT scans and biopsies. Malignant mesotheliomas are graded upon the extent they have spread. A stage I, or localized, malignant mesothelioma is one that has not spread beyond the area it originated in. Stage II, III and IV malignant mesotheliomas are advanced, and may have spread to lymph nodes or to surrounding or distant organs and tissues. Depending on the stage, a treatment plan may include surgery, radiation therapy or chemotherapy. Some cancer treatment centers are involved in clinical trials using biotherapy and immunotherapy.

After studying the human body and mind from all different angles for almost two decades, it became very clear to me that we all have an unlimited capacity to heal and change. However, most of us have not learned yet how to access this self-healing power or even trust or believe in such a potential.

The following 9 keys are an opportunity for you to explore and utilize your natural ability to heal. Whether you are currently dealing with a physical, emotional or mental challenge and receiving medical treatment or not, these 9 keys will allow you to access your self-healing potential and accelerate the healing process. There is really nothing you can do wrong - just do it and enjoy.

1. Focus on health and healing rather than dis-ease.
Remember that you are not your disease ? your disease has been ?created? by your body and the body can ?uncreate? it as well.
2. Find good reasons why you want to heal.
The more incentives / motivations you come up with, the better. Pay attention to the small ?stuff? that makes life worth living (e.g. a hug from a friend, a wonderful meal, a beautiful sunset, the kindness of a loved one, the joy of being there for somebody etc.)
3. Give specific ?orders? to your body and your mind what you want it to do.
For example: If you have pain, tell the body to create ease and comfort; if you are dealing with a tumor, tell your body to let it ?melt? away; if you have emotional challenges, tell your mind and body to create inner peace, harmony etc.
4. See the disease as an opportunity to learn and grow.
Identify the metaphors of the illness ? if the illness had a message for your, what would it be. Notice the messages of the symptoms you are dealing with ? sometimes symptoms can be taken very literally (?pain in the neck?, ?heaviness in the stomach?, ?stiffness in the joints?). Also search for significant emotional events, traumas or inner conflicts that were preceding the illness. Find ways to heal these conflicts and emotions so that your unconscious mind and body are not pre-occupied and can focus on physical healing (for example through Time Line Therapy, NLP, Hypnotherapy, Counseling, Energy healing etc.).
5. Use visualizations and creative imagery to stimulate your self-healing potential.
If you are taking medication, include what you would like your body to do with the medication (e.g. maximum effect without side-effects). Books and tapes by Dr. Bernie Siegel, the pioneer on using visualization to heal, are a great resource.
6. Never give up hope and faith.
Always look for evidence that you can heal and are healing. Avoid listening or ?buying into? negative prognosis, statistics... Surround yourself with positive people, positive life and health affirming messages.
7. Use meditation and relaxation exercises on a daily basis.
Meditation and relaxation have been shown to be very beneficial to treat chronic pain, migraines, hypertension and other chronic illnesses. Relaxing the mind and the body also activates our immune system. Even 10 minutes per day will make an enormous difference. A great way to start is to simply to find a quite and peaceful place, sit back and focus simply on your breath. After one to two minutes start inhaling for 5 seconds, hold the breath for 5 seconds and the exhale for 5 seconds. You can gradually increase the times to 20 seconds. The effects of this Kundalini Yoga breathing meditation are immediate and 5 minutes of this breath replace 30 minutes of sleep. Other great alternatives to relax are self-hypnosis CDs, which directly stimulate the subconscious mind, massages and other body work etc.
8. Give your body proper nutrition and sufficient rest.
Healing occurs when our body is well rested and well nurtured. Consult your physician, naturopathic doctor, nutritionist or herbologist to find the proper way to nutritionally support your body.
9. Feed your body with joy, harmony and laughter.

Extensive research has shown how the enormous healing benefits of joy and laughter. In 1976 the prestigious New England Journal of Medicine published an article by Norman Cousins, who was diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis (also known as Bechterew Disease) a painful inflammation of the spine. His case was so severe that he was given a very dim prognosis. Realizing that negative thoughts and attitudes can result in illness, Norma Cousins believed that positive thoughts and attitudes may have the opposite effect. He left the hospital and checked into a hotel where he took high doses of vitamin C and watched funny movies and shows. He found that ten minutes of laughter resulted in several hours of pain-free rest. He continued this treatment until he recovered. Cousins proved that laughter is a very effective medicine and added another important piece of evidence of the power the mind-body connection.

Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma Survival Rate

Malignant pleural mesothelioma is the most common type of malignant mesothelioma. Many factors may be involved in determining the survival rate for this aggressive cancer; some are better understood than others. Estimates of median survival time range from one to two years; survival depends on underlying factors such as the type and extent of spread of the mesothelioma. Only seven percent of people with this cancer survive to five years after diagnosis, but this outlook is gradually improving with some promising experimental treatments. Some people live well beyond five years from the time of diagnosis.

In general, younger age at diagnosis, absence of weight loss and limited loss of lung function are associated with chances for increased survival. Stage I mesotheliomas, which have not spread to the lymph nodes or adjacent tissues and organs, also carry the best prognosis. The type of cell the cancer is comprised of can also affect survival. The epithelioid cell type has the best prognosis, the mixed or biphasic cell type the next best prognosis, and the sarcomatoid cell type the worst prognosis. The majority of malignant pleural mesotheliomas are of the epithelioid cell type.

Because this cancer takes so long to manifest, people are usually diagnosed at an older age and with more advanced disease, potentially worsening the prognosis and the treatment options available. The more aggressive the treatment, the better the outcome may be, but in cases with cancer that has spread to other parts of the body, chemotherapy may be the only alternative. New drugs, such as the combination of Alimta with Platinol, have been shown to improve survival in malignant mesothelioma patients whose only option is chemotherapy. A number of experimental treatments, such as immunotherapy and biotherapy, are currently being evaluated in clinical trials.

Reflexology on the NHS? Put a Foot Down for Funded Referrals

Are the days of the good old family doctor gone forever, the archetypal doctor who knows your medical history first hand?

Sadly it seems so, with GP?s in Britain busier than ever before, dealing with more constrictions, and time limitations, leaving patients feeling un-listened to and hurried.

With more people taking an active interest in health issues and in particular the detrimental effects of stress on the body, along with an abundant medical resource at their finger tips in the form of the colossal encyclopedic internet, patients often now diagnose their own symptoms before visiting their GP.

The growing interest in the use of complementary health treatments has seen a definite shift in patient attitudes, with many combining orthodox treatments with Acupuncture, Shiatsu, or Reflexology to help specific problems, but also as a preventative treatment to help keep their body in good balance.

Patients are now recommended Reflexology treatments by many GP?s and Reflexologists are working alongside nurses across the country in hospices and voluntarily in NHS hospitals.

?Research has shown that approximately 20% of the UK population use complementary healthcare, with nearly 50% of GP practices offering some form of access to complementary treatments.? The Prince of Wales Trust for Integrated Health

The change has been slow in up take, but is gathering momentum fast, with more GP?s seeing the positive benefits of Reflexology, and pioneering organisations such as the Prince of Wales Trust for Integrated Health, pushing for regulation, integration and ultimately funded referrals, change is afoot, quite literally!

It is a very positive time for integration with orthodox medicine which has been saving thousands of lives since the middle of the 19th century and in the past fifty years has given the UK the free health treatment we all want and need on the NHS which was established in 1948.

Eastern complementary medicines, practised for centuries are seamlessly merging, creating a well rounded and diverse health system, giving the patient more choice, more time and most importantly, more treatment.

Now that GP?s are referring patients for Reflexology, the next push is for funded referrals, at the moment only those who can afford Reflexology are enjoying its benefits and often the people that cannot such as the elderly for example, are the most in need.

There are some complementary health clinics and some Doctors surgeries that do offer funded referrals, which is a really positive step, but currently they are the exception rather than the rule, the fact that its happening is very encouraging for patients, practitioners and for the recognition of Reflexology as a treatment that really works.

How we can all help:

Patients using Reflexology: Tell your GP?s how you?re benefiting from Reflexology and make inquiries about funded treatments.

Reflexologists: Encourage patients to ask their GP?s for funded treatments, the more people asking, the louder the message will become.

Body Hair Removal ? Your Choices

If you suffer from unwanted hair and are looking for a body hair removal solution there are several options that you can choose from. These body hair removal options will safely remove the hair and in some cases can produce a permanent hair removal solution.

The first body hair removal option that is available to both men and women is shaving. Shaving is a very popular method of removing unwanted body hair but the downside is that hair can grow back very quickly.

Using a depilatory product is another form of body hair removal. This process chemically dissolves the hair but as with shaving the hair will return. Another downside to using a depilatory product is that many of these creams can cause irritations and skin tests are always recommended prior to use.

Waxing is another very popular method of body hair removal but as with shaving this is not a permanent hair removal solution. Waxing is also very painful but re-growth is slower.

Electrolysis as a form of body hair removal can in some cases prove to be a permanent hair removal solution. An electrical current is used to destroy hair follicles but several sessions are required and the results are not guaranteed. Electrolysis can also be very painful and only small areas can be treated at a time.

The last choice available for body hair removal is lazer hair removal. Using a laser hair removal treatment destroys hair follicles and results in permanent hair removal. A laser hair removal treatment can be used all over the body and large areas can be treated at a time. The only drawback with this body hair removal solution is the cost of laser hair removal which can be quite expensive. With lazer hair removal there is minimal pain unlike electrolysis which can be very painful and after a laser hair removal treatment the skin will heal quite quickly, usually within 20 minutes.

Essential Oils have a Powerful Impact on Health

An essential oil is a volatile, aromatic liquid that is generally distilled from the stems, leaves, flowers, roots, bark, or seeds of a plant. Containing the true essence of the plant, the essential oils are highly concentrated and far more potent than dried herbs.

The science of using essential oils is known as aromatherapy. This science is used for psychological and physical well being and for best results, only pure and natural oils should be used.

The origins of aromatherapy date back thousands of years. From documented uses by Napoleon, to references in the Bible, fragrant oils and spices have played a prominent role throughout world history.

Essential oils can be used in many different ways. The English model advocates massage by diluting small amounts of essential oil in a vegetable oil and massaging the body for the purpose of relaxation and relieving stress. The French model includes both ingestion and undiluted topical application. The French believe that taking the oils internally produces the best results. A common method to ingest the oil is to add a few drops of honey, a piece of bread, or in a small drop of vegetable oil. The German model focuses on inhalation. The effect of fragrance on the sense of smell can exert a strong effect on the brain and limbic system. Research has shown that some essential oils can increase oxygenation and activity in the brain.

By using a combination of these three methods, the use of essential oils can be versatile and powerful. In his book, Gary Young suggests that inhalation of essential oils will increase growth hormone secretion, induce weight loss, or balance mood and emotions. Topical applications can produce results with spinal or muscle injuries or defects. He says, The ability of an essential oil to act both on the mind and the body is what makes them truly unique among natural therapeutic agents. The fragrance of an essential oil can be very stimulating--both psychologically and physically. The fragrance of other essential oils may be calming and relaxing, helping to overcome anxiety or hyperactivity. On a physiological level, essential oils may stimulate immune function and regenerate damaged tissue. Essential oils may also combat infectious disease by killing viruses, bacteria, and other pathogens.

Dr. David Hill, a chiropractor who sees patients from all around the world seeking to receive the healing power of essential oils, says, I personally have seen the healing properties of essential oils used to treat cancer and many forms of autoimmune disease with spectacular results. For example, it has been discovered that the essential oils of sandalwood has tremendous effect on combating specific types of cancer. Others like frankincense, myrtle, and white fir have been shown to have an effect against specific forms of cancer. Essential oils can build the immune system, offer support to body organs, aid in digestion, and reduce inflammation, just to name a few.

Although essential oils are generally considered without risk, it is wise to respect their powers and become well versed in their use and safety. As beneficial as essential oils are, it is prudent to note the purity is as important as safety. According to Dr. Hill, Efficacy can only be fully realized when there is proper care given to protect the delicate chemical balance associated with essential oils during the distillation process.

Generally speaking, the essential oils that you find in department stores, and even health food stores, are of uncertain quality. When choosing an essential oil, be sure to select a guaranteed, therapeutic grade essential oil. In addition, select and use those oils whose scent you find particularly appealing. The whole principal of aromatherapy is that it should be a pleasurable experience. There will generally be more than one oil you can use for a particular purpose, so you should be able to find one you like.

E.F.T. (Emotional Freedom Techniques) Heals a Vietnam War Veteran in a Matter of Hours!

EFT. (Emotional Freedom Techniques) is a ?revolutionary new healing aid? according to Essex based E.F.T. practitioner,Linda Anderson.Linda goes on to quote EFT founder Gary Craig; ?the cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body?s energy system.? This version of acupuncture without needles depends on tapping the end points of the Energy Meridians, a system first discovered by Chinese Medicine more than 5,000 years ago! Whilst tapping it is necessary to speak of and mentally tune into the causative uncomfortable or disruptive event. The results appear to be truly impressive!

She tells us how in 1994, EFT founder Gary Craig and his associate Adrienne Fowlie were invited by the U.S. Veterans? Administration in Los Angeles to spend six days using Craig?s new therapy to help treat a group of veterans from the Vietnam War. These men were still suffering from the traumas they had experienced more than twenty years previously.

?Rich? had served as a warrant officer in Cambodia. He had been released from the service in 1975 and had undergone treatment for his Post Traumatic Stress Disorder since 1978. His symptoms included a severe height phobia which had been induced largely by the 50 parachute jumps he had made whilst on active duty. As a result he was afraid to use elevators and would often feel uncomfortable on reaching the second floor of the local shopping mall. Remarkably his phobia disappeared after one fifteen-minute tapping session with Gary Craig. Craig made a video recording of this work with the 'Vets'. The film shows ?Rich? standing on top of the Administration building and waving over the fire escape to his friends below without feeling a hint of his old fear. A truly remarkable outcome which had not been matched by his sixteen years of treatment. Moreover, a little bit more work reduced his intrusive war time memories of entering villages literally littered with bodies to negligible proportions and his previous insomnia cleared up too! The interesting element here was, ?Rich? treated himself. Yes, he was taught how to use ?EFT? and despite his scepticism tapped on his fearsome memories until they all disappeared. What?s more, Gary Craig reassured the audience that such remarkable cures were usually permanent. In ?Rich?s? case they checked back two months later and all was still well. He knew that if anything should resurface he now had in his possession ?an awesome tool? which he could use to heal himself without recourse to any intrusive medication. EFT is easy to use and easy to learn. Anyone can get a result with it after a short course of instruction!

Linda Anderson heard about this remarkable therapy, first developed in the USA, and was eager to learn more. She is now a qualified EFT therapist and offers help like this in Saffron Walden, Essex, U.K. EFT has been used to startling effect on a very wide range of issues such as fears, phobias, anger, grief, anxiety, depression, traumatic memories, PTSD, physical pains, allergies, addictions and cravings, worry, guilt and all limiting emotions in sports, business and the performing arts. Its true potential is only just beginning to be explored. She echoes Gary Craig when he says ?We are at the ground floor of a healing high-rise? and encourages people to ?Try it on everything? - within the bounds of common sense of course! Interested in this subject? Try this link for more of the same EFT has been clinically effective in thousands of cases and details of actual clinical cases and testimonials can be viewed on Gary Craig?s EFT website. Acne and Scarring

Let?s face it acne and scaring go hand in hand. Now you can suffer from mild acne and your scars will be barely noticeable and will fade away with time or you can have severe acne and suffer from pock marks and long term scaring.

Scarring is the body?s natural healing process when the dermis is damaged. The body lays down a layer of collagen fibers which is a protein produced by the body. The body cannot regenerate the tissue exactly how it was so the new tissue will have a new texture, color and inferior quality than the surrounding tissue. The scar tissue may be more sensitive to light and to the touch.

The amount of scar tissue depends on the severity of the wound. In the case of acne, the skins scar tissue depends on the type of acne you have. Most white heads form a small layer of scar tissue that will fade over time. There may be slight discoloration but that can be treated with many over the counter products.

Cystic acne on the other hand tends to cause pock marks (craters on the face) due to tissue damage under the skins surface. The craters can be temporarily treated with collagen injections. This will fill the hole but must be repeated regularly to maintain the effect. Laser treatments and dermabrassion removes the top layer of skin which help flatten the raised skin. Redness will occur but will subside within a few months.

The trick to treating scars is prevention. Don?t sit around and wait until it?s too late. There are many acne treatment systems that will reduce if not eliminate your acne. Believe me they are worth every penny if they can prevent the psychological effects acne scaring will have on you for the rest of your life.

Why suffer when you can treat it?

The Hard Facts About Mesothelioma

While asbestos-related mesothelioma may not be as wide-spread as lung or breast cancer, this debilitating disease has affected thousands of Americans throughout the last several decades. Caused by inhalation of asbestos fibers, mesothelioma ? in its malignant form - is a fast-spreading, deadly cancer that has been found in individuals all around the world who?ve been exposed to this deadly mineral, used haphazardly for years in many different industries, including shipbuilding and construction.

Technically, in mesothelioma, the cells of the mesothelium ? the two-layered membrane that covers the internal organs of the body - become cancerous and grow out of control. This disease is most often of the pleural variety, affecting the membrane that covers the lungs, but can in rare cases be found in the pericardium, the layer that covers the heart, or the peritoneum, that which covers the abdomen.

Who?s Been Exposed?

The material known as asbestos, which is naturally mined from the earth, was used in a variety of industries for decades. Most mesothelioma cases are a result of workplace exposure though there are a number of cases of mesothelioma caused by second-hand exposure.

Those at highest risk worked in such industries as shipyards, power plants, steel mills, aluminum plants, automotive service centers, and construction companies, where the use of asbestos was most rampant because of its excellent insulating properties. Those who worked in vermiculite or talc mines were also exposed to airborne asbestos fibers.

Though the dangers of breathing airborne asbestos fibers have long been known, many companies did virtually nothing to protect their employees from contracting asbestosis, other lung diseases, or the asbestos-related cancer known as mesothelioma.

Though the dangers of asbestos were made public in the mid 1970s and many industries stopped using the material, because the symptoms of meso can take 20-40 years or more to surface, many sufferers have only recently been diagnosed.

Diagnosis and Treatment

If you know that you?ve been exposed to asbestos at the workplace or elsewhere, while it?s not advisable to panic, it is smart to be on the lookout for symptoms of mesothelioma so that it can be diagnosed as soon as possible. Early diagnosis prompts more treatment options. Symptoms of mesothelioma might include:

? Coughing
? Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
? Difficulty Sleeping
? Weight Loss
? Pain in chest and abdomen
? Fluid in the chest

Because these symptoms are often indicative of a number of other diseases, diagnosis can be difficult and often occurs during a routine exam or during a doctor?s visit meant to address a different concern. CT scans, MRIs, blood work, and biopsies will be used to make any final determinations.

Treatment of asbestos cancer can be tricky and is usually determined by a number of factors. While surgery may be a viable option in treating many cancers, the late diagnosis of most meso patients and the fast spread of the disease often means that surgery is not a useful treatment. Usually, patients with pleural, peritoneal, or pericardial malignant mesothelioma are treated with radiation or chemotherapy, depending on the stage of the disease, the patient?s age, and his/her overall health. Once a patient has reached Stage IV malignant mesothelioma, most doctors will recommend only palliative treatment, designed to keep the patient comfortable and pain-free.

A medical team, including an oncologist, experienced in the particulars of mesothelioma can best determine what treatment options are must for each individual cancer victim.

Though your doctor or nurse may not suggest them, alternative therapies are being sought out more and more by meso patients looking for pain relief or seeking other palliative measures. Many cancer sufferers consider acupuncture, hypnosis, meditation, and massage to help improve their quality of life.

Dealing with the Diagnosis

While you may have recognized that you were at risk for contracting asbestos-related cancer, confirming the actual diagnosis will certainly be devastating. Be sure to gather as much information about the disease as possible and don?t hesitate to ask questions.

Those who contract the disease will face a myriad of feelings, from disbelief and depression to fear and anger. While turning to family members for support is a good idea, many patients require assistance in the form of professional counselors, psychologists, psychiatrists, or clergy persons. Addressing the mental difficulties caused by the disease can be just as important as treating physical symptoms.

Who?s Responsible?

Because asbestos exposure is the only known cause of malignant mesothelioma, chances are that most meso victims will have a pretty solid idea of where they contracted the disease. For many years, however, employees hid the dangers of working with asbestos, willingly exposing employees to this hazardous substance on a daily basis. In turn, those who worked with asbestos may have unknowingly exposed their family members as well, bringing white asbestos dust into their homes on their clothes or bodies.

The asbestos cover-up affected many who could have been spared this horrifying disease if only employers would have admitted to the dangers. More and more meso sufferers have been filing lawsuits against asbestos manufacturers and workplaces whose unsafe products or work areas contributed to their disease. Asbestos-related cancer victims have the legal right to collect funds to cover medical bills, loss of income, and loss of quality of life. Many of those diagnosed have been able to collect funds to help with expenses. Mesothelioma victims should take time to find an attorney who?s well-versed as to the ins and outs of the disease and is abreast of the legal options available to those whose life is threatened by asbestos-related cancer.

Visit http://www.mesothelioma.com for more information about mesothelioma and other asbestos-related diseases.

Sunburn Home Remedies

If you are suffering from sunburn, but do not want to go to the doctor, there are several home remedies that you can use to treat your condition. In many cases, these home remedies can provide you with better treatment than anything that you would get from your doctor.

One of the best home remedies for sun burn is to apply cold water to the affected areas. This can be done by simply placing cold compressions on the area for 10 to 15 minutes at a time. If you are looking for a more long term solution, you can soak in a bath of cold water. This may be a bit uncomfortable on the rest of your body, but it will feel great on your sunburn.

Another sunburn home remedy that is easy to follow includes nothing more than drinking a lot of water. By loading up on water you will be fighting dehydration, and at the same time speeding up the healing process.

There are also many sprays and lotions that you can put on the affected areas. The good thing about these medications is that they can be bought over the counter, and they are usually what doctors recommend anyhow. You should look for the lotion that contains aloe vera. This will be sure to speed up the healing process, while also making your skin feel much better.

Finally, don?t forget the ever popular calamine lotion if the itching is killing you. This has been proven to be one of the best ways to take the itching sensation out of sun burnt skin.

Overall, there are many home remedies that can help relieve your sunburn. There is really no reason to see the doctor because you should be able to find your own solution without much trouble at all.

MuscleTesting and Applied Kinesiology: Uses and Tips on How to Use it

Muscle testing is an empowering energy technique that most anyone can use to better their health. Muscle testing functions as a subconscious lie-detector test and is used by challenging any muscle of the body. Over the years I have answered numerous questions about muscle testing, how it is used, how to make it more accurate, how people misuse it, and what things to pay attention to. This is the culmination of all those questions. Before using muscle testing, meditate or pray to become a clear channel and leave your ego out of the answers. Intention is everything in the world of healing.

You obtain better answers from your muscle testing by asking better questions. For example: Do I have permission to ask this question? Is this something I should let go of or participate in? Can I share this information? Am I asking the right question? Is there anything else I should be asking? And, will this be reasonable and in alignment with my morals and values?

Always ask yes or no questions?be clear and present when asking. Ask only one question at a time.

In Healing Work I use muscle testing for: Doing body scans for disrupted energy, testing for vanishing twins, to determine which disease is most plausible from a list of rule outs, for doing chiropractic adjustments on animals or figuring out where to place spot magnets, to determine the best treatments or healers to use, for emotional clearing work, to ask which flower essences, herbs, supplement, crystal and foods to combine for relaxation, immune building, serenity, and health. Muscle testing can also be used to test amounts.

Using Muscle Testing for Allergy testing: It?s useful for asking what side effects or benefits are being caused by a particular drug and in testing which flower, bulbs, grasses, shrubs, trees, molds and mildews or pollens you are allergic to.

Some fun and different ways to use muscle testing: Use it to test who is visiting from the other side, for backtracking the core cause of death, to choose which clothes to wear for best health or to look the best in an interview, and to pick the perfect gift or card for someone you love.

For Organizing Things: If goals and accomplishing tasks are important to you, muscle testing can be most helpful in prioritizing tasks and in determining how much time to spend on each item.

For Pet Health: Muscle testing can be used to communication with your animals. Ask your pet which foods they like and which will help their health, which name they would like to be called, or if they would like a companion. In my veterinary practice I use muscle testing to determine what the best antibiotic is to send home and for determining which foods to use in creating a personalized raw food diet.

I use muscle testing for nutrition and dieting by testing which emotions trigger the cravings for certain foods, to test which ingredients a person is allergic to and for asking the amounts of raw fruits and vegetables that would be best for the body.

For Spiritual Issues, muscle testing is used to: test the number of past lives or the number of lifetimes you have spent with someone, to track past lives, to ask whether someone is in your soul-pod, in tracking down spiritual lessons to focus on with a person and for tapping into the Akashic records.

In Helping with Environmental Issues, it can be used for: finding and clearing energy vortexes in a house, dowsing to find water, minerals, and the best places to build.

For learning purposes, muscle testing can be used to test the percent truth of a book or chapter, to test the truthfulness of a newspaper article, theory, or paper. I often use muscle testing to determine which books to purchase, or which topics to study next.

In Plant Healing muscle testing can be used to communicate with your yard, your garden and individual plants. Yes, plants talk too. I use it to figure out where to plant individual plants and to ask where the plant wants to be and if it is happy where it?s at, when to water, or what a plant needs to be healthier (more sun, water, soil, micronutrients, fertilizer, drafts, etc.)

Ionized Water and its Benefits

Water is considered as the ELIXIR OF LIFE as no life on earth can exist and survive without water. Water is derived from the old English word water and also from the German word ?wasser?. It is a tasteless, odorless and nearly colorless substance in its pure form that is essential to all known forms of life and is known also as the world?s most universal solvent.

Water occupies 70% of the Earth. It exists in many places and in various forms. It appears mostly in the oceans and polar ice caps, but also as clouds, rain water, rivers, freshwater aquifers, and sea ice. On the planet, water is continuously moving through the water cycle involving evaporation, precipitation, and runoff to the sea.

Water fit for human intake is called portable water. Drinking water is the water which is intended to be drunk by humans. Although most fresh water sources are drinkable by humans, they can cause long term health problems if they do not meet certain water quality guidelines.

There are several water analyzers and special testers available with help of which the water quality can be tested or detected. They include multiple tests for bacteria Pesticide (Atrazine & Simazine), Nitrate, Nitrite, Iron, Hardness, Chlorine, Copper, Alkalinity, pH, and Lead. Clear directions, easy methods, and top quality non-toxic test ingredients assure you of reliable test results.

Water-filters-purifiers-softeners.com is there to offer this as it has a range of water purification materials for testing water quality in various forms. Most countries in the world have water quality guidelines to be met for water sold as drinking water. Nearly all municipal water bodies deliver one quality of water, whether its used for drinking, washing or for irrigation purposes.

This can be achieved with the help of range of cartridges, sediment filters, carbon filters, omni pure filters ,filter housings, faucets, water softeners and water distillers Since water is made up of many different substances, it can taste and smell very differently.

Around 72% of the fat free mass of the human body is made up of water. To function properly the body requires between one to eight liters of water per day to avoid dehydration, the ideal will depend upon amount depending on the level of activity, temperature, humidity and other factors.

The National Research Council recommends 2.7 litres of water for women and 3.7 litres for men.Humans require water that does not contain too much of salt or other impurities. Some of the common impurities include chemicals and harmful bacteria. Some of them are acceptable while others may prove fatal to human health.

These bacteria and forms of chemical substances can be removed with the help purifiers and softeners .There are several purification and enhancing method done. But the most recent and common method is the alkaline ionization method which is done with the help of a water ionizer.

A water ionizer is an appliance that ionizes the water through a method of electrolysis. Many water ionizer manufacturers( claim that drinking alkaline water with a lower ORP(organic perspective) and high oxygen content improves health.

The ionizer is made up of several compartments of distillers and filters and the ionizing chamber. These filters and distillers can be placed even in our houses with the help of filter housings .The water ionizing method was first introduced in Japan some 30 years ago. The Process In the ionizer, there are two chambers with opposite polarity electrodes. Alkaline minerals in the positive electrode chamber migrate into the chamber with negative electrode; the positive electrode repels positive charges and the negative electrode attracts positive charges. As these positively charged alkaline minerals enter the negative electrode chamber, they combine with hydroxyl ions (OH-) in H2O, kicking out hydrogen ions (H+). These hydrogen ions then travel to the negative electrode and give up their positive charge and become electrically neutral hydrogen molecule (H2). The opposite process takes place with acid minerals. Acid minerals migrate into positive electrode chamber and combine with hydrogen ions (H+) in H2O, kicking out hydroxyl ions (OH-). These hydroxyl ions then travel to the positive electrode, lose negative charge and become water (H2O) and oxygen (O2). In the ionizer, oxygen gas is released from the acid water chamber and hydrogen gas is released from the alkaline water chamber. Both chambers remain electrically neutral. Common claims about the health benefits of ionized water include the claim that ionized water is more readily absorbed by the body than ordinary water, and that minerals in ionized water are more readily available to the body. There are several benefits by drinking ionized water .

  • Excellent natural anti-oxidant that will scavenge free radicals before they oxidize cell tissue .
  • Provides more available oxygen to your body than ordinary tap water
  • Neutralizes and flushes toxins and acidic waste from your body. Your body can focus on achieving optimal health
  • Natural astringent for improving complexions. It removes skin oil and greasy dirt without harsh chemicals.
  • Natural hair conditioner.
  • Highly antiseptic for cuts, abrasions, and wounds.
  • Natural texture and color retained in vegetables cooked in alkaline ionized water. Rice will be fluffier after being boiled in ionized water
  • Helps with weight control and curbs your hunger when dieting.
  • Soaking in warm acidic ionized water improves healing from athletes? foot, rashes; nail fungus infections and insect bites.
  • Contains structurally smaller molecules which helps the body assimilate more water and hydrate quickly

Alternative Healing Through Psychic Healing

Psychic Healing defines a realm of activity in which the healer, who is generally not a medical professional of any sort, but a lay person, communicates to the recipient, the ill or wounded, a type of energy which aids in the curing of a condition or a disease. The energy used in Psychic Healing has not yet been recognized by traditional science.

Psychic Healing is a very controversial subject in the modern world, but the practice is very ancient. Probably the most common type of Psychic Healing practiced today is through shamanistic healers of various cultures. Whether Native American, South American, Aborigine, or New Guinea, the shamanistic cultures involve a specially trained individual who communicates a healing power to the subject, sometimes through special objects or amulets and sometimes through the intervention of spirits, who themselves perform feats of Psychic Healing.

In the modern world and in contemporary cultures, much of Psychic Healing can be traced back to Antoine Mesmer, who believed in a theory of ?animal magnetism? by which subjects could be infused with a special energy through a series of passes. Often, Antoine Mesmer is credited with the invention of hypnosis, but Mesmer?s theory is much different than the current theory of hypnosis. The current theory is based on the idea that hypnotic phenomena can basically be traced to suggestion, the influence of a thought, normally transmitted verbally by a hypnotist to his subject contradicts the theoretical concept of Psychic Healing promoted by Messer.

There have actually been numerous attempts to prove that Psychic Healing can occur. Among the most famous have been the experiments of Bernard Grad, a Canadian biologist and physiologist working out McGill University. In his experiments, he compared the rapidity of healing wounded rats through an allopathic medical protocol to the rapidity of healing of these same rats by healers, who worked on them through the laying on of hands.

In order to verify Psychic Healing and the efficacy of these healers, who could have actually imparted some chemical to the rats through their hands instead of truly using Psychic Healing energy, the healers were asked to ?treat? water that were contained in vials- by placing their hands around the vials, but not actually in the water. The water was then used to hydrate one set of seeds, while another set remained in a control group which was not exposed to so-called Psychic Healing energy. The seeds irrigated by the water treated by the healers grew faster and were sturdier than the seeds in the control group which were not exposed to Psychic Healing energy.

Another type of experiment in Psychic Healing was conducted by a nurse and teacher at New York University, a lady named Dolores Krieger, indicated that nurses who did a laying on of a hands on real patients managed to raise their hemoglobin values as opposed to nurses who just talked to or spent time with the patients.

Is there any connection between Psychic Healing and spiritual practices? One of the most famous scientists who studied Psychic Healing was Lawrence LeShan, who developed a protocol to induce Psychic Healing. LeShan is a trained psychological therapist who encourages a transmission of energy to his subjects based on meditation.

Acne Prevention Exercise

Now for the facts. Let's take a look at how to combat acne. The main strategy to use is prevention where possible and better skincare. Here are several top issues of focus for each: exercise, cosmetics, diet, hormones, hygiene, medications, shaving, stress.

1. Exercise - Keeping in shape can help fight acne by fighting off negative stress levels that can come from negative self-esteem and depression. However, some safeguards need to be in place to ward off acne that can result from your workout routines. First watch which products you use on your body because you'll most likely be sweating. With any sunscreens for outdoor workout activities and any make-up or other cosmetics, check for noncomedogenic and oil-free on the labels to help prevent pore clogging. And when your workout is finished, wash the products off as soon as possible, especially if you'll be going into a steam room or sauna where your pores will be opening up more. You don't want these lotions and other cosmetics getting into your pores and clogging them up, resulting in blemishes.

Watch what you put on your body with regards to clothing, sports gear and equipment, too.

For example, tight lycra and nylon exercise outfits might look great in the movies and on magazine models, but if you are susceptible to acne problems, avoid these synthetic fabrics that tend to trap in body moisture and heat resulting in a bacteria frenzy. Instead, choose loose clothing made of cotton or natural blends to allow more air to get to your skin. And when you're finished with your workout, get out of clothing wet from perspiration or water sports. Shower and change into dry, clean clothing. And keep your sports gear and equipment clean, too. Dirty headgear, for instance, can irritate forehead areas prone to acne problems. So toss headbands into the washing machine after workout sessions.

Tip: when cleaning your body after a workout, no need to scrub with force and irritate skin.

If possible, wash with medicated soap (check for exfoliant on the label) or medicated wipes from your athletic bag where showers aren't available.

Tip: and when drying with a towel, even if it's during your workout to erase sweat, always blot instead of rub. That way you avoid grinding excess dead skin, dirt, sweat and other chemicals into your pores and risking pore-clogging and skin irritation.

Does the Amount of Dental InfectionsRoot Canal Infections Influence the Severity of Disease?

When infected teeth produce disturbance in other parts of the body, it is not necessary that the quantity of infection be large, nor is it demonstrated that it is necessary that organisms pass throughout the body or to the special tissues involved, but the evidence at hand strongly suggests that soluble poisons may pass from the infected teeth to the lymph or blood circulation, or both, and produce systemic disturbance entirely out of proportion to the quantity of poison involved.

The evidence indicates that toxic substance may under certain circumstances sensitize the body or special tissues so that very small quantities of the organisms, which produce that toxin, may produce very marked reactions and disturbances.

The nature and results of the numerous Dr. Price investigations are a continuous source of amazement.

For example, in pondering how bacteria could survive in dentin tubules when they become sealed off by the root canal filling, Dr.Price devised a method of dehydrating teeth - that is, measuring the amount of moisture they contain.

In doing this experiment, Dr. Price found root filled teeth contained fluid of sufficient quantity to be culture medium which would nourish bacteria.

Another question which interested Dr. Price was whether the bacteria in infected teeth soley responsible for the illnesses which occurred to rabbits after infected teeth were imbedded under their skins.

He found that by extracting infected teeth, crushing them, and then washing the powder, bacteria could still be found in the liquid. When he put the liquid in a centrifuge, the centrifugal force spun off the bacteria and sedimment, leaving a clear liquid.

When Dr. Price injected a small amount of this clear liquid into a rabbit, it lost 25 percent of its weight in four weeks and it died in the fifth week. Its brother rabbit, used as the control animal and not injected, continued to thrive and gain weight.

Home Remedies for Constipation Chinese Style

These traditional Chinese home remedies for constipation are easy to prepare, safe and effective. Most of them are made from common ingredients with natural, bowel lubricating and moistening actions. Others are exercises and massage techniques you can do to help move your bowels. Also included here is advice on eliminating and relieving primary causes of constipation. This is absolutely necessary if you want to have regular bowel movements AND you want these home remedies for constipation relief to work well. After all, what's the point in taking a remedy for constipation while at the same time continuing to, for instance, eat foods that cause or contribute to the problem?

Natural Remedies and Constipation

Some of these are adult constipation remedies only, however some may be given to both adults and children. Start with a remedy you feel fits your particular needs and stick with it for a while. If you've also made some dietary and lifestyle modifications, as outlined below, and it still doesn't work then try another remedy. Be patient though - blocked, constipated bowels usually take months, or years, to manifest, so don't expect to reverse your condition overnight!

Home Remedies For Constipation

Remedy One: Honey Tea

Add 3 grams of green tea leaves and a tablespoon of honey to a mug of hot water. Wait several minutes. Drink warm after meals. Moistens the intestines and frees the stools. Particularly suitable for constipation in the elderly and constipation after child birth.

Remedy Two: Honey & Sesame Oil Drink

Add a tablespoon of honey and a dash of sesame oil to a mug of hot water. Stir well. Repeat every morning before breakfast. Moistens the intestines and frees the stools. Especially suitable for habitual constipation with dry stools.

Remedy Three: Sweet Mulberry Drink

Bring two bowls of water to the boil. Add 60 grams of fresh, ripe, dark mulberries. Continue boiling till one bowl of liquid is left. Strain the dregs, and add white or crystal sugar to taste. Drink frequently. Suitable for adults and children.

Remedy Four: Molasses Drink

Add two tablespoons of molasses to a glass of warm water and stir. Drink twice daily. One of the mildest yet most reliable home remedies for constipation. Suitable for adults and children - give children just one spoon of molasses though.

Remedy Five: Banana & Fig Smoothie

Not really a traditional Chinese home remedy for constipation but effective, and highly nutritious, all the same. Put 2 or 3 fresh figs or dates, a very ripe banana, a spoon of honey or molasses and a cup of water into a blender. Mix well and drink once a day or so. Suitable for adults and children.

Remedy Six: Senna Leaf Tea

Put 1-3 grams of Senna leaf in a mug and add hot water. Let steep for several minutes before drinking. One of the most powerful, natural home remedies for constipation. Good for moving hard stools with signs of heat in the body, e.g. a red face, feeling hot, bad breath, dark yellowish urine. Senna leaf is a strong laxative and not recommended for long term use, though, or during pregnancy or menstruation, or by those who are weak from illness or constitutionally weak.

Remedy Seven: Spinach Soup

Make a simple spinach and water soup and add a little salt. Another gentle yet effective home remedy for constipation relief - soothes and stimulates your bowels. You may also add carrot to the soup to further stimulate and soothe your bowels. Suitable for adults and children.

As mentioned, above, in addition to taking home remedies for constipation relief you should try to identify and eliminate the cause of your constipation. Diet is usually the primary cause, i.e. excessive eating of nutritionally dead foods such as white bread, cakes, cookies, pastries, candy, over cooked foods, over cooked meats and too many pasteurized dairy products like milk, all of which do little more than clog up your colon. The closer your food is to its natural state the better is for you AND your colon!

Emotional stress is another common cause of constipation. Breathing exercises and acupressure are simple yet highly effective ways to deal with stress, anxiety, negative emotions, nervousness and worry. Here are some techniques you can start using right away:

http://chinese-holistic-health-exercises.com/breathing-techniques-reduce-stress.html

Additionally, your body likes regularity so you should try to eat at set times and empty your bowels at set times, e.g. sit on the toilet every morning at the same time regardless of whether or not you feel you need to go.

Mesothelium Advice Questions and Answers

What is mesothelioma?

Mesothelioma is cancer of the mesothelium. Like most cancers, mesothelioma involves the abnormal dividing of cells of a particular part of the body -- in this case, the mesothelium. Mesothelioma is so deadly because it remains dormant for many years and then begins to rapidly expand. The cancer then begins to invade and damage nearby tissue, including the vital organs.

What is the mesothelium?

Many of the internal organs of the body are protected by a membrane called the mesothelium. This membrane actually consists of two layers of cells. The inner layer surrounds the organs, and the second is a sac surrounding the inner layer. When organs within this membrane must move or expand or contract -- such as the heart, lungs, bladder, and so on, they are able to do so because the mesothelium produces a lubricating fluid between the two layers.

Mesothelioma most often begins in the pleura or peritoneum. The pleura surrounds the lungs and covers the chest cavity. The peritoneum covers most of the organs in the abdominal cavity. Other mesothelium tissue is also vulnerable to mesothelioma. These include the pericardium that surrounds and protects the heart; the tunica vaginalis testic which surrounds the internal male reproductive organs; and the tunica serosa uteri which is the membrane covering the internal reproductive organs in women.

Who is at greatest risk to develop mesothelioma?

Mesothelioma has a very specific cause - exposure to asbestos. During the first half of the previous century, right up until the mid 1970s asbestos was used to insulate buildings, machines, heavy equipment, and also for a broad range of commercial applications. Because it was inexpensive to mine and quite plentiful, asbestos was used in building products such as home insulation, floor, ceiling and roof tiles. It was also not uncommon to find it in commercial products such as brake linings and pipe insulation.

As a result, millions of people were coming in contact with asbestos on a daily basis. Companies and health officials were slow to recognize the dangers of asbestos because the effects of exposure to asbestos fibre often do not become apparent for 30 or 40 years after prolonged exposure.

As a result, shipyard workers, men and women working in asbestos mines and mills, tradespeople working in the building trades, workers producing asbestos products, workers in the heating and construction industries, and many other tradespeople were exposed to asbestos for extended periods of time.

Today the risks of working with or near asbestos are well known, so there are strictly controlled limits of exposure in the work place. But since the dormancy period of mesothelioma can often be 30 or 40 years, there are millions of workers who are at risk because of their exposure in the decades before the safety controls were put in place.

What are the symptoms of mesothelioma?

Pleural mesothelioma - cancer of the pleura or lung lining - causes shortness of breath or chronic coughing. Other symptoms of pleural mesothelioma may include chest pain, chronic coughing, shortness of breath, fatigue, wheezing, hoarseness, weight loss, or blood in the phlegm from the lungs when coughing.

Peritoneal mesothelioma affects the lining around the stomach and intestines and is usually just as dangerous. Symptoms of peritoneal mesothelioma include pain or swelling in the abdomen, weight loss, bowel obstruction, anemia, and fever.

Many of the symptoms of mesothelioma can easily be mistaken for allergies or a common cold. Mesothelioma is often discovered when patients think they have one of these other common illnesses.

How Serious is Mesothelioma?

By the time most infected people become aware they have mesothelioma it is often too late. By that time it is no longer dormant and becomes extremely aggressive. In its active phase mesothelioma can travel quickly, and is almost impossible to stop. There are treatments used to keep the patient comfortable, but there is currently no cure for mesothelioma. As many as 75% of those who develop the disease will lose their life within one year. The remainder may last for up to an additional six months.

This makes it extremely important to detect the disease before it enters its active phase.

How is mesothelioma diagnosed?

Mesothelioma is often not diagnosed until it reaches an advanced stage. This is because of its long dormancy period, and because once it becomes active the initial symptoms are similar to much more comman and less dangerous sicknesses such as colds or the flu. If a patient has a history of exposure to asbestos, then a complete physical examination is advised. This would normally include x-rays of the chest or abdomen and lung function tests. It might also include a CT (or CAT) scan or an MRI. Both of these tests give detailed pictures of areas inside the body.

If these tests indicate the probability of mesothelioma, then it is necessary to perform a biopsy to confirm the diagnosis. Doing a biopsy involves a oncology specialist taking a small sample of affected tissue and examining it under a microscope for signs of malignancy. Depending on the location of the affected tissue, doing a biopsy can be a relatively straightforward procedure. It normally involves the insertion of a small instrument into the suspect cavity. These surgical devices have both viewing and sample taking capabilities. So the oncologist or surgeon can look at the cavity from the inside, and then take tissue samples from different areas.

If mesothelioma is discovered, the initial tests are followed up with what is called staging. This involves more tests to determine how far the disease has spread.

How is mesothelioma treated?

Standard treatments include the normal options available to cancer patients: surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy. Sometimes, these treatments are combined. If the mesothelioma is discovered at an early enough stage these treatments can sometimes be effective.

Among the treatments that are used in order to reduce the effects of the disease are oxygen, postural drainage and pain killers. Many alternative treatment methods are also being tested, including attempts to strengthen the body's immune system. Gene therapy is also being tested in an attempt to attack the problem at the DNA level. Other treatments being tried and tested include homeopathy, herbs and acupuncture. Unfortunately none of these have been found to be very effective once the disease reaches its aggressive stage.

As with all cancers, early detection is the best defence against mesothelioma. Anyone who has been exposed to asbestos should be alert for symptoms and contact a doctor immediately. Detecting mesothelioma at the earliest stage possible greatly increases the chances of beating the disease.

Blondes Talking About Blondes!

What is it about blondes that both sexes find so appealing? We are drawn to them like we are drawn to gold or a great barbequed steak and a beer. Although there is no denying brunettes and red heads can be every bit as gorgeous, there is something about blonde colored hair that demands instant attention.

It is an age-old question, ?do blondes have more fun?? I say that?s the wrong question! How about asking: ?Who gets noticed first, the blonde or brunette?? If you had a less than beautiful blonde and beautiful brunette walking together, at a swift first glance I think it would be fair to say the blonde gets the first look. If you are a guy reading this you know it?s true.

But how did blondes get such a bad rep that an entire arsenal of dumb jokes has been devoted to them. Come to think of it, red heads and brunettes are not given this distinction so maybe that can be construed as a compliment. Yes! I think I?ll take that.

My all time favorite (smart) dumb blonde is Goldie Hawn! She is sharp as a whip and completely adorable and still looks fabulous today. Although, she is hooked up with Kurt Russell whom I would happily push Goldie in front of a truck to get a chance at. Ha ha, just kidding, maybe not.

How about Christina Applegate in her years with the television show, ?Married With Children?. You couldn?t watch that show without hearing screaming fans every single time she entered the set. She was an adored dumb blonde sexpot men couldn?t get enough of and she played the role brilliantly. She is also by the way, very clever and still looks fabulous. Hmmm? another smart girl, coincidence?

How about the classic, Marilyn Monroe. Another blonde adored by many.

I think the smart, dumb blonde may be an irresistible combination. What do you think?

Seriously though, there is something about the blonde that causes one to look and I want to explore some possibilities.

1)One theory I have is that everywhere on this planet anything that we have a shortage of is highly desired, such as diamonds, oil, gold, precious gems. We gravitate to the shiny things that are expensive and we want them but can?t have too much of. All over the world the overwhelming hair color is that of the brunette. And I?m including in this category everything from light brown hair to black. The true blondes are in short supply. This could be why we gravitate to that color and why many women dye their hair. Look at Asia or Africa, you won?t find anything but black hair. Tropical islands and most of north and South America have brown/black hair. I?m sure that when the Europeans first came to America, It must have been a shock to the natives to see blonde hair for the first time.

2)I also have the theory that people naturally gravitate to gold. It is the universal symbol of love. Most people wear gold wedding rings to symbolize a union of love and wear gold bracelets and necklaces in abundance. So if I am correct and gold is something we would naturally gravitate to, then would it not make sense that blonde hair, a gold color, would also be gravitated to? I may be completely off the wall here but it is something to look at.

I?m not in any way saying that blonde is better than brunette and I know that there are those that prefer brunettes over blondes but what I really want to accomplish here is taking a different point of view and exploring some possibilities.

I am a blonde talking about blondes, poking fun at myself.

Acne Cure How to Cure Acne

Acne is a common skin condition that is not restricted to any age group or sex. Acne may appear for any length of time. But one should not forget that Acne is not a disease and can surely be cured!

Conventional acne medications may be topical-applied directly to the skin, or they may be systemic-taken internally. Unlike medication treatments, the effects of acne surgery are usually more immediate.

An acne condition can be improved and eventually controlled, monitored or improved by a professional skin care program, or medical care combined with the home care program. Acne medications and antibiotics must be taken for several months for any improvement to appear in an acne condition if the case is severe. Many non-prescription acne products can control milder cases of acne without medical care.

Only recently, a laser treatment that causes temporary heat damage to oil glands, which may reduce the oil supply, was developed for acne cure. Not only this, several herbal remedies are also recommended for acne cure. Herbs such as chamomile, lavender, juniper, bergamot, dandelion root, and burdock root can be used to reduce toxicity and improve the overall condition of the skin.

While trying to cure acne, one should not forget that skin treated with alcohol, Benzol Peroxide, ether, acetone and other harsh ingredients may prematurely age the skin and leave the former acne sufferer with wrinkles and a grayish, sickly and tired skin tone.

Whether the acne sufferer chooses to use medications or not, skin care must be used. Some of the popular products in the market that can prevent and cure acne include:-Benzoyl Peroxide, Salicylic Acid, Retinoid, Antibiotics, Oral Contraceptives, Anti-Androgens and Isotretinoin (Accutane).

A good basic skin regimen just consists of Cleansing twice daily with a 5% benzoyl peroxide wash. An alternative for those who are allergic to benzoyl peroxide is 2% salicylic acid. Use of a light skin moisturizer and an oil-free makeup is need of the hour!

One should give dry skin extra care, being sure to wash and rinse their face thoroughly and using products especially made for dry skin. One should follow some of the important routine things like regular exercise, drinking plenty of water, use of safe cosmetics, having a healthy diet and following a healthy skin regimen. Avoid getting over-stressed; even good stress can trigger internal chemical responses that result in acne and not to forget drinking lots and lots of water and add more fruits, veggies, seeds and nuts to your regular diet.

Invasive Treatments Do They Really Work For Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

If you have been diagnosed with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS), you may be wondering ? what next? Below you will find information regarding the most common (not the best) treatment options currently in use in the medical industry and their success and failure rates.

If you have received a positive carpal tunnel diagnosis, most doctors will push for cortisone injections and/or surgery, procedures that have poor success rates and ones that should only be performed as a last resort, after all other conservative treatment methods have been utilized.

The following information provides details about what each current procedure entails as well as statistics that reveal why conservative therapy should be implemented over the following invasive treatment methods.

CORTISONE INJECTIONS FOR CARPAL TUNNEL SYNDROME:

Cortisone is medication that treats inflammation only. Often the carpal tunnel pain will subside because the inflammation of the median nerve is reduced from the use of the cortisone, but this is only a temporary effect.

The one main problem with cortisone is that for 21 days following the injection, the tendons have the consistency of rubber and can be seriously overstretched and damaged. This is a common side effect that most doctors fail to tell their patients. If the patient continues overusing and/or stressing their hands and wrists, the tendons can overstretch and cause the structural integrity of the joint to diminish greatly, causing the joint to become loose and sloppy, resulting in an even greater possibility of further injury and damage.

Cortisone can be used wisely as a part of a carpal tunnel treatment program along with the implementation of proper stretches add exercises, the most important tool that can be used to recover from carpal tunnel. If cortisone is utilized, it is good for the patient to take this time, when the carpal tunnel is not inflamed, to be on a conservative therapy program to correct the existing muscle imbalance in the wrist joint and eliminate the carpal tunnel symptoms for good. The problem is that most doctors give the cortisone shot and the patient goes home and either does nothing, or does too much, causing greater trauma to the median nerve within the carpal tunnel and exacerbating the symptoms.

Steroid (Cortisone) Injection Statistic:

*Failure rate (Including partial success as failure) is 72.6% after 1-year follow up. Source: Irwin, et al. J Hand Surgery.

SURGERY FOR CARPAL TUNNEL SYNDROME:

Carpal tunnel surgery consists of releasing (severing) the transverse carpal ligament that forms the roof of the carpal tunnel. Surgery is utilized to open and widen the carpal tunnel in order to allow more room for the median nerve, artery and nine flexor tendons to move around. There are several surgical procedures that are utilized to achieve this:

?Open Release Surgery: A local anesthetic is injected into the wrist and/or hand and a 2-3-inch incision is made in the palm and cuts the carpal ligament free from the underlying median nerve. This operation takes about 20-25 minutes.

??Mini? Open Release Surgery: The mini-open release technique involves an incision that is about 1.5 inches long and can be performed in the doctor's office with only a local anesthetic. The operation takes only about 12 minutes.

?Endoscopic Release Surgery: The Endoscopic technique is less invasive and uses involves one or two .5? inch long incisions in the wrist and or palm, and one or two endoscope (pencil-thin) tubes are inserted. A tiny camera and a knife are inserted through these lighted tubes. While observing the carpal ligament on a television monitor, the surgeon cuts the ligament to free the compressed median nerve.

Scalp Acne Problems A WhatToDo Guide!

Scalp acne, the mildest form of which is also known as scalp folliculitis, occurs more frequently than most people realize. Just about everyone knows what acne is and that it commonly breaks out on the face, chest, arms and on the back. But acne also appears on other parts of the body as well, and unless you're someone with acne in one of these 'other' areas, you may not have realized this.

Scalp acne and those similar to it, are often triggered during periods of great stress. This irritating scalp condition usually develops when the scalp becomes oilier than usual, for example when the hair isn't washed as frequently or when hair care products that contain a considerable amount of oil are used.

Scalp acne can be very itchy and therefore makes it very difficult for those who have it to leave it alone. In its mildest form, the pustules are small, crusty, and they're sore. They appear mainly on the upper forehead at the hairline. A person can have just a few pustules or there can be many.

A more severe form of scalp acne called acne necrotica miliaris is characterized by inflamed larger papules with black-colored crusts. This form of acne can leave behind scars that resemble those resulting from Chicken Pox. There is an even more severe form of scalp acne that primarily affects adult African-American men, but can actually affect anybody, regardless of race or sex. This extremely rare condition is a combination of large cysts and smaller pustules and papules that grow to be very large.

Treatment for Scalp Acne

Mild forms of scalp acne can be treated the way most other acne is treated. Keep the affected area clean by using a product that contains salicylic acid. Remember though that these products can cause excessive dryness so use only on affected areas. For better control, apply using a cotton wool or ball.

Since oily hair is a contributing factor to scalp acne, it is imperative to use shampoo that's formulated for oily hair. Hair care products designed specially to treat seborrhea have also been used with reasonable success. And since many people use more than just shampoo on their hair, it's a good idea to check the labels on all hair care products and make changes as necessary.

Never attempt to treat the more severe forms of scalp acne without consulting a dermatologist or doctor first.

One thing that should not be used to treat scalp acne is any product that contains benzoyl peroxide. That's because when peroxide comes into contact with hair, it can change the color of the hair and result in a 'less-than-desirable' look! Those who have chemically-textured hair (for example those with perms) or color-treated hair are most prone to hair trouble when benzoyl peroxide comes into contact with hair.

God's Healing Power Is Available To You By Faith

Good health and healing is available to us by faith in Jesus. It is God?s promise to us when we become Christians. Surely he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered him stricken by God, smitten by Him and afflicted. But He was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him and by his wounds we are healed.Isaiah 53:4-5 NIV

God created us to have eternal life, which includes health, in the beginning but because of what happened when Adam and Eve sinned against God, our bodies and soul were given over to death and decay. ?The man now has become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat and live forever.? Genesis 3:22

God has to follow the natural law that He has placed on this earth. Just as trees and flowers and even rocks are subject to decay, our bodies are naturally given over to decay until we die and we become ashes. But when we receive new life in Jesus, we are renewed inside and out. ?Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!? 2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV

However, we still live on the earth and our bodies are still subject to the world?s decay. Just as we need to guard our hearts against sin, we need to guard our bodies against that physical decay.

That?s why it is so important to eat right and take care of our bodies. It?s not wisdom to allow things in our body that are not healthy, just as we wouldn?t allow things in our minds that are not healthy. Moderation is the key.

Our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit. That?s the same Spirit that raised Jesus Christ from the dead. If it is powerful enough to raise the dead; it is certainly powerful enough to heal you and keep you healthy.

If you haven?t received Jesus in your heart as your Savior, please consider it. Maybe you have been considering it but you are putting it off. It doesn't matter what you've done or who you are, God forgives a repentant heart. Don?t put it off any longer;the blessing and healing of God awaits you once you receive His love into your heart.

If you need healing, receive it the same way you received your salvation-by faith! Look up scriptures on healing and declare them over yourself. In most situations, you will not see a ?miraculous? healing that occurs instantaneously. It happens, but rarely. God works according to the natural laws that He set in place. He also created our bodies to heal naturally. Our faith and our actions work together to bring healing to our bodies. Even the medical community has given credit to the power of prayer to heal. Think positively about your health situation in your mind and express it through your words by declaring God?s word of healing over yourself.

As you declare God's word of healing over your life, don't turn around and say that you are sick. You are are just stomping all over the seed of your faith and you will not receive your harvest of healing. But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a doubleminded man, unstable in all he does.James 3:6-8 NIV

If you struggle with this idea of healing, seek God about it for yourself. We all have the ability to hear from God for ourselves. Just make sure that what you hear in your heart lines up with the word of God. ?But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.? James 3:17 NIV God is always positive, never condemns or discourages. God always rewards those who seek Him and He gives wisdom to those who ask for it, ?If any of you lack wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.? James 1:5-6 NIV.

Cold and Flu Medicines Right From Your Kitchen

In Japan, they usually use egg wine to cure cold, flu, fever, etc. Whenever it turns cold, egg wine becomes a favourite beverage in every Japanese household. You can make it yourself by mixing wine with some well beaten egg. Add some sugar to that alcoholic egg and put the mixture into the microwave oven for about 20 minutes. A glass of egg wine is ready for you to enjoy! It helps improve your blood circulation, warm your body when it?s getting cold and makes you feel sleepy. Drinking egg wine is also a good way to restore your energy and also enhance the beauty of your skin.

In addition to egg wine, alcoholic garlic also does wonders when you have a cold or flu. Soak 100g of crushed garlic in 0.5 litres of strong alcohol for about 2 days. After that, filter the mixture and drink 20-30 drops of that mixture with boiled water three times a week. You can also cure your stuffy nose by dripping a mixture of crushed garlic and water into it. However, with small children, you cannot use the crushed garlic liquid to drip into their noses; you just should let them smell it.

Another way to use garlic in curing colds and flu is to combine it with honey. Mix some crushed garlic with honey and drink a spoonful of that mixture with boiled water four times a day. Garlic has been proved to be very effective in curing colds and flu, some people even eat raw garlic when they are ill their flu goes away very quickly. Moreover, eating lots of garlic in your meals is very good for your heart and is even said to prolong one?s life span.

Colds and flu can also be cured or prevented by eating raw onions. You can make a salad with raw onions and other kinds of vegetables if you don?t like the strong taste and smell of them on their own.

However, the simplest and most common way to cure colds and flu is using ginger. Ginger is especially effective when you have a cough or fever. Even when you are in good shape, drinking ginger tea regularly is very good for your health and can prevent colds and flu. Put some ginger slices and a little sugar into hot water, after 5 minutes, a special cup of tea is ready for you!

5 Common Myths About Acne

In spite of the fact that the scientific knowledge about acne and its causes has progressed in the last few years, there are still many myths that continue to be held as truth.

The following are five of the most common myths about acne:

1. Acne is caused by poor hygiene

Skin infections are associated with acne, and this may be what has led to this myth. The combination of sebum and dead skin cells that lead to acne actually occurs beneath the skin's surface, where is can't be washed away.

2. Acne is caused by certain foods

It has long been thought that chocolate and greasy foods cause pimples. There is no evidence to prove that this is true. These foods are not very healthy so eating to much of them can cause other health problems, which can aggravate problems with acne.

Some of the foods that do seem to aggravate acne when it is already present include milk and foods with high levels of iodine. Iodine is commonly found in seafood, so it's a good idea to limit your milk and seafood intake if you're suffering from acne.

3. Acne has to run its course

It's commonly thought that the only way to deal with acne is to let it run its course. This is no longer the case - there are many treatments available to deal with acne. If you're suffering with it, talk to a dermatologist to see if any treatments are available that could help.

4. Acne is a teenage condition

While most teenagers deal with acne to some degree, it is by no means limited to them. Most people's acne clears up by the time they reach their 20's, but there are others who continue to have problems in adulthood. Some people even experience it for the first time in their 30's and 40's.

5. Sun is good for acne

Sun exposure is not a good way to deal with acne. It can help to dry out excess oils from the skin so it does have a short-term benefit but the skin gets used to the change quickly and the benefit is lost. Plus, sun can seriously damage the skin and lead to skin cancer, so the risk is greater than the benefit.

Can You Reduce Your Risk of Breast Cancer?

We hear it all the time?lose weight for your health. Few people however, realize the extent to which this is critical to their physical well-being and ultimately their life expectancy.

In January 2003, the Journal of the American Medical Association featured a study finding that obesity appears to lessen life expectancy, especially among young adults. The researchers compared Body-Mass Index (BMI) to longevity and found a correlation between premature death and higher BMIs. For example, a 20-year-old white male, 5?10? weighing 288 pounds with a BMI of greater than 40 was estimated to lose 13 years of his life as a result of obesity.Jamie McManus, M.D., F.A.A.F.P. and author of ?Your Personal Guide to Wellness? notes that while this study referenced extreme levels of obesity, there are still millions of overweight people in developed countries with a life expectancy rate that is three to five years less than their healthy-weight counterparts. She also estimates that there are 600,000 obesity related deaths each year in America.

Just how does obesity shorten our lifespan? The answer to this question is complex, yet there is a clear link between obesity and the development of cancer. An extensive study conducted by the American Cancer Institute involving 750,000 people showed that obesity significantly increased the risk of cancer developing in the following organs: breast, colon, ovaries, uterus, pancreas, kidneys and gallbladder.

Michael Thun, MD, vice-president of epidemiology and surveillance research for the American Cancer Society (ACS) says one reason obesity may raise cancer risk is because fat cells produce a form of estrogen called estradiol that promotes rapid division of cells, increasing chances of a random genetic error while cells are replicating, which can lead to cancer. In addition, fat centered around the abdomen may increase insulin and insulin-like growth factors in the blood, which may increase cancer risk.

Women who are obese after menopause have a 50% higher relative risk of breast cancer, notes Thun, and obese men have a 40% higher relative risk of colon cancer?. Gallbladder and endometrial cancer risks are five times higher for obese individuals?.There is evidence that cancer rates in developed countries are increasing at 5 to 15 times faster than developing countries. A major contributor to this alarming reality has proven to be diet. In populations where the diet consists mostly of fresh fruit and vegetables and whole grains ? in contrast to the typical Western diet of fatty meats, refined flours, oils and sugars ? the risk of cancer is much lower.

The interaction of diet and the development of cancer is an active field of research and Dr David Heber, M.D., Ph.D. and author of ?What Color is Your Diet?, says ?It appears that diet has its most significant effects after the cancer has already formed, acting to inhibit or stimulate the growth of that cancer?. At the risk of oversimplifying a complex set of interactions, the typical Western diet that leads to obesity may actually act to stimulate the growth of cancer cells. It is never too late to improve your health through healthful eating and adopting a more health-giving lifestyle. Here are simple steps to follow which can make an immediate improvement to your health and vitality.

1. Check your Body Mass Index (BMI) to determine if weight has become health risk. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 60% of Americans are overweight, defined as having a BMI (a ratio of height to weight) over 25. Of those, nearly half (27%) qualify as obese, with a body mass index of 30 or more. In 1980, just 15% of Americans were considered obese. You can check your BMI at the website below.

2. Match your diet to your body?s requirements. If you eat and drink more calories than your body requires you will put on weight. Learn to control calories and portion sizes, make recipes leaner, and eat infrequently from fast food restaurants. Also learn how to snack with healthful choices.

3. Color your diet with a large variety of colorful, cancer-fighting fruit and vegetables. There are seven different color ranges of both fruit and vegetables and by choosing between 5 to 9 daily serves from a wide range of fruit and vegetables, we are extending our consumption of cancer (and other disease) fighting nutrients.

4. Eat lean protein with every meal. Protein provides a powerful signal to the brain providing a longer sense of fullness. The right source of protein is essential to controlling your hunger with fewer calories and necessary to maintain your lean muscle mass. Choices of protein should be flavored soy shakes with fruit; the white meat of chicken and turkey, seafood such as shrimps, prawns scallops and lobster and ocean fish or vegetarians may prefer soy based meat substitutes.

5. Rev up your metabolism with activity. If you want to enjoy a lifetime of well-being, exercise is a key ingredient. Colleen Doyle, MS, RD, director of nutrition and physical activity for the American Cancer Society (ACS), says adults should do something for 30 minutes each day that takes as much effort as a brisk walk. Children should be active for an hour each day. We are more likely to develop habits around things we enjoy, so seek activities which you enjoy doing. It is also helpful to build physical activity into your daily routine: use the stairs instead of the escalator or lift at work, park your car in the parking bay furthest from the super marketing and don?t use the remote control to change TV channels.

6. Get support to ensure you develop a healthful eating plan and reach your goal weight. Whilst a small percentage of people possess the discipline to lose weight, many obese people have developed strong thoughts and habits concerning the food they eat. In order to establish new habits, most people respond well to some form of consistent encouragement and coaching. A study, ?Effects of Internet Behavioral Counseling on Weight Loss in Adults at Risk of Type 2 Diabetes? shows that participants who had the support of weight loss coaching lost more weight than those who didn?t. The study concluded that the support of a weight loss coach can significantly improve weight loss results.

Being overweight or obese has been identified next to smoking, as the most preventable major risk to developing cancer. Even small weight losses have been shown to have beneficial health effects. So it?s never to late to start and you can never be too young or too old to be concerned about your health and do something about achieving a more healthy weight.

When you do go to have a colon cleanse you will see that it is a disgusting job that needs to done so that you are able to live a more natural life without much pain. If you see that you are having more pain in your stomach than you used to a while ago then you are going to want to talk to your doctor about a colon cleanse to help with the stomach pain you are having. The Birth Control Pill & The Breast Cancer Connection

There is only one drug in the world so well known that it's called the Pill. For more than forty years, more people have taken ?the Pill? than any other prescribed medicine in the world.

Sex, pregnancy, and contraception have been hot topics for millennia. It wasn't until the U.S. government approved the birth control pill in 1960 that possibilities for contraception changed dramatically. The majority of women -- and plenty of men -- welcomed ?the Pill?.

The birth control pill was the first medication ever designed for purely social, rather than therapeutic purposes. At the height of the drugs popularity, U.S. Senate hearings focused the nations attention on potentially deadly health risks posed by the high-dose Pill. As a result of the hearings, pharmaceutical companies lowered the dosages and doctors advised women who were obese, smoked, had high blood pressure or a family history of blood clots against taking the Pill.

In the 1980s, the high dosage 10-milligram pill was removed from the market and biphasic and triphasic oral contraceptives were introduced. Today, women can get a prescription for a Pill containing 1 milligram of progestins, one tenth of the original dose, and containing as little as 20 micrograms of estrogen.

From the very beginning, a significant number of women complained of discomfort from the Pill and switched to other methods. When women wanted to discuss the side effects with their doctors, they often met with frustration. It was common for their complaints to be dismissed as exaggerated. In other cases their ailments were just considered the price that women had to pay in return for such an effective contraceptive. The problem was compounded by that fact that female patients were not always informed about the potential for strokes, heart attacks or blood clots while on the Pill. For the most part sharing ?the Pills? risk has become a part of the information provided by health care practitioners who prescribe the Pill.

Today, the safety of the Pill is assumed. However, it is important to remember that the pill contains identical hormones to those found in Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT). HRT has come under question because of the Women?s Health Initiative Study showing an increase in breast cancer and heart disease for those women who were on HRT.

In October 20, 2004 headlines read ?Birth Control Pill Cuts Cancer, Heart Disease Risk: Study - A new study, yet to be published, suggests women who use oral contraceptives have lower risks of heart disease, stroke, and cancer.?

This study has now been denied as accurate by the WHI. ?Analyses by the WHI have made it clear that the recent findings were not correct?

The low dose pill today although deemed to be safe has never undergone a large government-funded study similar to the WHI study on HRT. According to Dr. John R. Lee in his book What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Breast Cancer ?women up to age 21 who use the Pill increase their lifetime risk of Breast Cancer by 600%. Caution when considering the use of Birth Control Pill should still be used.

Cardio Enthusiasts: Discover a More Effective Training Method for Fat Loss and Heart Health!

It is common to hear fitness professionals and medical doctors prescribe low to moderate intensity aerobic training (cardio) to people who are trying to prevent heart disease or lose weight. Most often, the recommendations constitute something along the lines of perform 30-60 minutes of steady pace cardio 3-5 times per week maintaining your heart rate at a moderate level. Before you just give in to this popular belief and become the hamster on the wheel doing endless hours of boring cardio, I'd like you to consider some recent scientific research that indicates that steady pace endurance cardio work may not be all it's cracked up to be.

First, realize that our bodies are designed to perform physical activity in bursts of exertion followed by recovery, or stop-and-go movement instead of steady state movement. Recent research is suggesting that physical variability is one of the most important aspects to consider in your training. This tendency can be seen throughout nature as all animals demonstrate stop-and-go motion instead of steady state motion. In fact, humans are the only creatures in nature that attempt to do endurance type physical activities. Most competitive sports (with the exception of endurance running or cycling) are also based on stop-and-go movement or short bursts of exertion followed by recovery. To examine an example of the different effects of endurance or steady state training versus stop-and-go training, consider the physiques of marathoners versus sprinters. Most sprinters carry a physique that is very lean, muscular, and powerful looking, while the typical dedicated marathoner is more often emaciated and sickly looking. Now which would you rather resemble?

Another factor to keep in mind regarding the benefits of physical variability is the internal effect of various forms of exercise on our body. Scientists have known that excessive steady state endurance exercise (different for everyone, but sometimes defined as greater than 60 minutes per session most days of the week) increases free radical production in the body, can degenerate joints, reduces immune function, causes muscle wasting, and can cause a pro-inflammatory response in the body that can potentially lead to chronic diseases. On the other hand, highly variable cyclic training has been linked to increased anti-oxidant production in the body and an anti-inflammatory response, a more efficient nitric oxide response (which can encourage a healthy cardiovascular system), and an increased metabolic rate response (which can assist with weight loss).

Furthermore, steady state endurance training only trains the heart at one specific heart rate range and doesn't train it to respond to various every day stressors. On the other hand, highly variable cyclic training teaches the heart to respond to and recover from a variety of demands making it less likely to fail when you need it. Think about it this way -- Exercise that trains your heart to rapidly increase and rapidly decrease will make your heart more capable of handling everyday stress. Stress can cause your blood pressure and heart rate to increase rapidly. Steady state jogging and other endurance training does not train your heart to be able to handle rapid changes in heart rate or blood pressure.

The important aspect of variable cyclic training that makes it superior over steady state cardio is the recovery period in between bursts of exertion. That recovery period is crucially important for the body to elicit a healthy response to an exercise stimulus. Another benefit of variable cyclic training is that it is much more interesting and has lower drop-out rates than long boring steady state cardio programs.

To summarize, some of the potential benefits of variable cyclic training compared to steady state endurance training are as follows: improved cardiovascular health, increased anti-oxidant protection, improved immune function, reduced risk for joint wear and tear, reduced muscle wasting, increased residual metabolic rate following exercise, and an increased capacity for the heart to handle life's every day stressors. There are many ways you can reap the benefits of stop-and-go or variable intensity physical training. One of the absolute most effective forms of variable intensity training to really reduce body fat and bring out serious muscular definition is performing wind sprints.

Most competitive sports such as football, basketball, racquetball, tennis, hockey, etc. are naturally comprised of highly variable stop-and-go motion. In addition, weight training naturally incorporates short bursts of exertion followed by recovery periods. High intensity interval training (varying between high and low intensity intervals on any piece of cardio equipment) is yet another training method that utilizes exertion and recovery periods. For example, an interval training session on the treadmill could look something like this:

Warm-up for 3-4 minutes at a fast walk or light jog;
Interval 1 - run at 8.0 mi/hr for 1 minute;
Interval 2 - walk at 4.0 mi/hr for 1.5 minutes;
Interval 3 - run at 10.0 mi/hr for 1 minute;
Interval 4 - walk at 4.0 mi/hr for 1.5 minutes;
Repeat those 4 intervals 4 times for a very intense 20-minute workout.

The take-away message from this article is to try to train your body at highly variable intensity rates for the majority of your workouts to get the most beneficial response in terms of heart health, fat loss, and muscle maintenance.

Treatment of Acne with Benzoyl Peroxide

Benzoyl peroxide is probably the most widely used treatment for acne because of its antibacterial and drying properties. It is available for use by everyone from babies to teens to middle aged persons. It is available in mild solutions for over-the-counter use and in prescription strength.

Benzoyl peroxide is closely related to industrial drying agents in a variety of products. The products sold for a quick repair to automotive bodies contain benzoic acid. Another use of a similar substance is as a preservative in food. It's a pretty affective way to remove liquids. Still it can be overly drying as can be deduced from its use in car repairs.

Naturally something as widely available as this substance is misused on occasion. Overly strong solutions sold for use on the thicker skin of the torso would be harmful if used on the face. This would be extremely true if the very strong solution sold for a young adult were to be used for a baby's delicate skin. The same substance can be prescribed for a baby but in a much more dilute solution.

This very simple approach to acne treatment enters the marketplace in many different forms. Whether used in soap or cleansing foam, it is just as easy to overuse this chemical. In any of its forms no matter how creamy the product may feel it really is the strength of the solution that determines the way in which it is to be used.

Baby and adult skin treatments use the lowest solution at 2.5% while the strongest solution at about 10% is used in the treatment of cystic acne of the body. A few applications for solutions of 1% are available for the treatment of rosacea acne.

Benzoyl peroxide should be used as part of a comprehensive treatment approach.

Acne Care

Taking proper care of acne is very important, so that the acne does not become a serious problem.

Clean your face often:

It is advised to clean your face often by using cleansers. Washing your face at least three times a day is recommended, but if you exercise, go for jogging, work in a factory environment etc then you need to wash your face after you complete that job.

Don?t touch the skin quite often:

Most of the people who have acne keep on touching, squeezing or rubbing the acne, which could leave marks on the skin. It is advised not to touch the skin often.

Shaving properly:

While shaving you should take care the acne portion is not cut. If you have acne in the beard area, it is advised to trim your beard rather than to shave with sharp blades and cut the acne, which could lead to blemishes. Shave only when it is necessary.

Avoid Sun:

If you use acne creams or lotions then it is advised not to go in the sun as you could get sunburn. Sunburn could leave a blemish on the skin and overexposure could even lead to skin allergy.

Using cosmetics:

You have to choose the cosmetics very carefully when you have acne. The cosmetic products should be noncomedogenic, which means it won?t close your pores. Even using noncomedogenic products could make the acne bad.

As you may already know, there are many acne treatment products available. Some of these treatments include over-the-counter cleansers, creams, and medicated pads. Other acne products involve prescribed medications provided by a dermatologist. However, the increasing popularity of natural remedies has also become prevalent in treating many common conditions, and acne is no exception.

Surprisingly, water is considered as one of the best natural remedies for treating acne. Water? Yes! Water... and for good reasons! Water is used to hydrate the body, which, of course, hydrates the skin as well. The skin, being the largest organ in the human body, must be properly hydrated to work correctly and serve its purpose. This is accomplished in two ways: by washing the face, which hydrates the surface of the skin, and by drinking water, which hydrates the entire body, from the inside out. This, of course, includes the skin. Drinking plenty of water will keep the skin looking and feeling healthy. Healthy skin cells promote a healthy body. Now you've got one more good reason why you should drink lots of water ;-)

Doctors tell us we should drink six to eight eight-ounce glasses of water a day. Although this might sound like an overused clich?, and six to eight eight-ounce glasses of water a day seems like a lot of water to drink in one day, think of what it can do for your body. In addition to improving skin tone and texture, it can stimulate cell growth and will help all your organs work correctly. It also helps filter out unwanted substances that can be harmful to your skin.

Water is also a crucial component deep within your skin. It provides the basis for a soft, smooth, and healthy complexion and will help you look more youthful. Though very little water is stored in the outer layers of your skin, this moisture is important and is constantly removed by outside elements such as sun and wind.

Sun and wind can dry your skin, removing moisture and irritating its surface. When this occurs, pre-existing acne can become even more irritated, which in turn prolongs the problem. While irritation won't directly cause more acne to form, it can worsen the problem. It is important to keep proper moisture in the skin.

You've probably heard that oily skin does not need moisture. This is one of the most common myths. Just because skin is oily, it doesn't mean it is moisturized. By cleansing the skin, you are wiping away excess oil, and by moisturizing it, you are helping it remain smooth and decreasing your chances for irritation.

As the best natural remedy for treating acne, water helps to properly hydrate the skin. This not only promotes and stimulates cell growth, but also helps the other organs of the bodywork together. If properly hydrated, the skin will not wrinkle or sag as easily, and will appear youthful for a longer period of time. Even though water is not the only natural remedy that you can use for treating your skin, it is the most important. Without it, the skin could not do its job in keeping the rest of the body in the best possible condition. So, don't forget about the many benefits that water provides for your skin, especially if you suffer of any type of acne. Try to give your skin a little bit more help - a little bit more water.

Breast Cancer Facts and Figures

It would not be surprising, therefore, that any ailment or condition that endangers the look, health and functionality of this vital body part would be a real source of worry to every lady.

Breast cancer, despite all medical and technological advances, as been on the rise in the last 50 years or so. The figures that stare us in the face when we check the records are quite alarming. But, there is no running away from these figures, they are real.

It's alarming but it is true that there's more breast cancer now than ever before. It is true that between 1979 and 1986 the incidence of invasive breast cancer in the United States alone has increased 29 percent among white women and 41 percent among black women, and incidences of all breast cancers doubled. It's true that despite yearly mammograms and advanced medical and diagnostic technology the percentage of women dying from breast cancer has remained virtually unchanged over the past 50 years, and that every 12 minutes throughout the last half of the 20th Century another woman died of breast cancer.

It is also fact that more than two hundred thousand cases of breast cancer are diagnosed every year in the United States. In Canada about twenty thousand new cases, thirteen thousand in Australia and over forty one thousand in the UK. And it's true that breast cancer is the disease that women fear more than any other, that breast cancer is the biggest killer of all women aged 35 to 54, and that of the 2.5 million women currently diagnosed with breast cancer, half will be dead within ten years.

It really does not matter if you are 20 years old or 50 years old. You stand some risk of catching the monster. It is estimated that one in every nine women will get breast cancer at some period in her life

These are not pleasant tales. My purpose in painting these gory pictures, is not to scare anyone, but to make you see the importance of giving more attention to your breast. The more you know about breast cancer, the better.

Almost every woman is at risk of breast cancer, but records show that 80% of cases are found in woman over 50 years of age. There are several factors that can predispose one to breast cancer. Some are within your control and others are not. It therefore makes much sense to avoid the humanly controllable factors as much as possible. Most of these are the daily lifestyle choices we make. The problem is that these habits do not show the extent of damage they can cause to our body until we begin to get older, and by then the damage is done already.

Factors associated with breast cancer include:

- Taking an oral contraceptive pill
- Hormone replacement therapy
- Obesity and/or high fat diets
- Family history of breast cancer

It is worth stating here, however, that most breast cancers are hormonally related Other factors may also affecting the risk, include stress, carcinogens, excessive use of stimulants like alcohol, caffeine and cigarettes and exposure to pesticides and radiation.

Early detection of breast cancer is still the best guarantee of getting cured. Presently, six out of every seven patients diagnosed with breast cancer are cured at an early stage. However, if they are diagnosed when the cancer has become advanced, the cure rate falls to about one in seven. It is extremely important to catch breast cancer at an early stage if it is to be satisfactorily cured. This therefore makes knowing the symptoms very crucial.

Breast cancer, in its early stages hardly shows any sign at all. It does not cause any pain in most instances. Some of the symptoms associated with breast cancer include:

- Itching in the armpit or around the breast region
- Pink, red, or dark colored area (called erythematic) with texture similar to the skin of an orange
- Ridges and thickened areas of the skin of nipple or breast
- Appearance of a bruise that does not go away
- Nipple getting inverted
- Breast warm to the touch
- Pain in the breast which could vary from a constant ache to stabbing pains
- Change in texture as well as color of the skin around the nipple
- Change in the shape or size of a breast
- Dimpling of the breast skin
- Swelling or a lump in the armpit
- Discharge from the nipple

None of these symptoms is clear evidence of breast cancer, as most of the signs may also arise due to other conditions affecting the breast. Only a doctor can made a definite statement about the presence or otherwise of breast cancer after an exhaustive examination.

Know your breast, and how to self examine your breast and always report the slightest changes to a doctor. It's not worth taking chances with breast cancer. It's real and it's spreading like wild fire in the ever-polluted society we live in today. Do the little you can to keep your name off the breast cancer list, the sacrifice is worth it.

Choosing A Mesothelioma Doctor

Choosing a doctor that is right for you can make all the difference in your treatment experience. Below are doctors with national and international reputations for their work with mesothelioma patients. The American Cancer Society has provided a checklist of topics to consider and questions to ask your doctor which may be helpful in choosing a doctor as your treating physician or to get a second opinion.

A Mesothelioma diagnosis can be stressful for anyone and therefore you will have a lot of questions. The following worksheets will guide you in asking the right questions when consulting a doctor about what the right course of treatment is best for you.
www.mirg.org/worksheets

Where Do I Go From Here?

After diagnosis, it is important to understand your treatment options. Your doctor or oncologist will provide you with information on the treatments that are available to you.

If you have mesothelioma, or any other asbestos-related disease, you were most likely exposed to asbestos. Many of the manufacturers of asbestos insulation products knew for decades that asbestos was hazardous, yet made a business decision not to warn people of those hazards. As a result, you may have a right of recovery against those manufacturers, which can help defray the costs of treatment and provide compensation for your pain and suffering.

How Chiropractors Have Helped Me

Years prior to this writing, I lived in the great state of Georgia. While there I started what has become my career--writing for and building websites.

It was also then that I began having very intense migraine headaches. The pain was so terrible that I could not work during the pain and would literally turn off the lights in my office and lay my head on my desk. This pain would last for an hour to an hour and a half nearly everyday.

My boss knew of this daily occurrence and allowed me the break until my headache subsided.

After several months of having this daily hour of suffering and taking every pain pill I could find, I began to worry about my health. It could be a tumor, I thought.

So I consulted my medical doctor for testing. After testing he told me that I did not have a tumor and appeared to be in good health. Many times, he said, headaches are caused by misaligned vertebrae in your neck. The misalignment could cause pressure on the nerves and produces your head pain.

He handed me the business card of a chiropractor and said I should schedule an evaluation.

I did schedule an evaluation and the chiropractor told me that he could indeed help my headaches. He estimated it would take two weeks of adjustments for my neck muscles to strengthen enough to hold the vertebrae in line.

I was skeptical. After all, I'd had these headaches nearly every day for several months. How could this take it away in two weeks?

He was incorrect in telling me he could take my pain away in two weeks. It was one week. And I didn't have another headache for seven months! When that headache happened I went back to my chiropractor and to this day I don't suffer with that torturous pain.

I have also witnessed chiropractors remove ear infections in my children, literally in a matter of hours. I've seen family members live normal lives who were told they needed back surgery. The list goes on and on.

I especially remember seeing X-Rays of my back after a car wreck in which I was involved. My lower back was severely curved to the left and the pain I was in was nothing short of intense. After a half an hour of using an ice pack to calm the trauma, my chiropractor adjusted my back. A follow-up X-Ray showed a straight spine and I was walking normally the next day instead of being in bed and drugged up on pain killers as I would have otherwise.

So from a regular guy who's words cannot be taken as medical advice, if you are dealing with joint pain and especially if you are dealing with headaches, see a chiropractor. Your decision is your own, but in the words of my medical doctor, Having your spine in line just makes sense.

All About Acne and Blemish Control

A common problem that affects most of us as teens is acne. While 80 percent of us struggle with this affliction, many have trouble controlling it. Acne blemish control typically begins with assessing the problem at hand. Most of us don't have a clue how to properly fight pimples and breakouts, therefore we take a clueless route, which only begets more acne. Acne blemish control is done through understanding and proper skin care.

I'm sure many people recall the hardships of their adolescent years. The insecurities, the hormones, the pizza face. When I first noticed a pimple on my face, I did what most naive teens do, and popped it. This is a mistake on several levels. First of all, popping a blemish can cause scaring. In addition, when you pinch or squeeze a zit, you only irritate it further. A more efficient road would be to treat it with some form of acne blemish control. There are a deluge of products gracing the drugstore shelves these days. Controlling and destroying our acne doesn't have to be so painful.

To become better educated on acne blemish control, it is prudent to seek advice from a dermatologist. They can give you proper guidance in controlling your breakouts. There are a number of prescriptions available to fight this ego crusher. Back in high school, my best friend was severely affected by acne breakouts. He was that guy people made fun of and called pizza face and blemish boy. Not only was his face covered, but he had the classic backne as well. I could tell that this was a huge shot to his self confidence. A large problem was his acne blemish control method. He would literally wash his face six times a day. This is overkill, which results in severe drying. Eventually he found a remedy through a dermatology clinic.

A great source to resort to today is the Internet. You can find an abundance of information on skin types, and levels of acne. Acne blemish control no longer consists of rubbing alcohol on a zit you just popped. There are solutions and treatments galore at your very reach. Whether you're looking for a mild exfoliant to cure your breakouts, or a three step system to deal with more severe blemishes, you will find a remedy online. If you wish to get a more immediate treatment, the drugstore down the street will likely carry a variety of acne fighters.

Keith Londrie II has put up two informative web sites so that you can learn more about acne and it's control. For more information please visit http://acneinformation.info/ and also visit http://acne-solution-treatments.info/ for more detailed information.

Wrinkle Free Skin Can Be A Dream Come True

Aging can be one of the most dreadful diseases which can give a feeling of helplessness. In olden times there were stories about the way people used to maintain their skin texture. Even though many say that beauty is skin deep, people would still thrive to have a younger look. Having a clear skin and then maintaining can be a very tedious task and one should take good care of their skin.

Taking care of your skin by doing some facial exercises can be very helpful. Wrinkles are a depiction of your lifestyle. The food you eat and the stress and other activities which lead to causing blemishes on your face as well as wrinkles. Proper care has to be taken if one has to make their face clear as ever. After a certain age your skin starts sagging which is due to the less care taken when the time you were young.

Some of the good skin care steps should be followed routinely which would involve cleaning, toning, moisturizing, sunscreen, skin treatments if needed. Protecting your skin from sun and avoiding oily foods can help you in creating a clear skin. You will find many products which claim to be anti-wrinkle creams and are very popular. These anti-aging creams are very huge in market and are used by everyone who like to turn around time.

Eating fruits and vegetables are very important as these fruits and vegetables have the necessary ingredients to help you in clearing your wrinkles slowly and steadily. It is said that one should have juices which are high in carotene and try to spice up your normal dish into something very interesting. Mangos, Papaya are the tropical fruits which can be a very interesting ingredient to your recipe. Broccoli is also very good for your skin.

Kevin Pederson has been managing a number of sites related to hair and skin care which have information on hair care tips, skin care tips, knowing more about your skin and how to avoid wrinkles.

Home Remedy for Acne

Home remedies have always been most preferred way to solve any kind of problem. It is because they are truly natural and reliable. They generally do not require extra expenditure; only the things that you already have in your refrigerator or kitchen. They are quick and more effective.

You can also cure acne naturally. Try making out masks, facials, packs and cleansers of home grown stuff, and get back a smooth, gentle, clear skin within few seconds. These will also help you to stimulate, relax and tone your skin without leaving any side effects.

The first step to this is to identify the type of skin you have. Oily skin usually has shiny, visible pores and is prone to break outs while a dry skin is rough, chap and flaky. It is not unusual to have the combination of the two types. Your skin may be oily at the T-region (the forehead, nose and chin) while dry at cheeks. A red, blotchy thin skin usually indicates a sensitive skin.

Once you know what kind of skin you have, get down to collect the things for preparing the masks that suits you the best.

If you possess oily skin, apply the liquefied core of two crisp apples or a liquefied big ripped tomato for 20 minutes on your face and then wash it of. You will see the difference soon.

Similarly you can apply natural masks on your face. Blend two large bananas with a one-tablespoon of raw honey for 20 minutes and you will have a shiny glowing skin.

Pimples can also be cured with a light massage of rose and sevti flowers extract, done thrice a day.

If from the beginning you take a few precautions, you might not develop the problem of acne. Avoid eating opposite foods. Don?t try curds, salt, mushroom, etc with milk. Similarly try not to have the combination of sprouts, honey and milk with meat or fish.

Following simple easy steps you can avoid these scars, but if you happen to develop one, try these trouble-free natural steps to cure them and get back your original glowing skin without any side effects.

Natural Home Remedies that Deliver

Thankfully, we do not take Murphy?s Law, too seriously. Imagine, dealing your sickness with this attitude: ?What?s going to get wrong, shall go wrong?! Stoical, yes; practicable, no. Natural home remedies have maintained a balance between the excessive hypochondria and absolute unconcern, as far as diseases are concerned. Age-old wisdom has a habit of coming true, though, in some instances, nobody knows how. Natural home remedies-be it for acne, skin care, infection or cold or even chronic irritants like arthritis or headaches-work or at least, provide relief to some extent.

A German proverb says that cold and cough can be cured in a week with medication, it takes seven days, otherwise. Is it not natural, that cold and cough would have a list of natural home remedies to fall back onto? The symptoms are running or blocked nose, Sneezing, Sore throat, Congestion, Headache, Low fever with body pain, Loss of appetite, Lethargy and Insomnia. The remedy is taking half a teaspoon of ginger juice with half a teaspoon of honey, three times a day (morning, noon and night). In cases of dry cough, chewing on a small piece of fresh ginger with salt sprinkled on it helps.

Severe pain in the affected joints, inflamed muscles, ligaments and cartilage, movement of the joint becoming extremely painful, especially in cold, windy and damp weather-means it is arthritis. One raw clove of garlic every day is supposed to be a cure. Half a teaspoon of turmeric powder with warm water, taken twice a day, also helps cure arthritis.

?Not, tonight darling, I have a headache? is an endearing lie that has become an integral part of every man woman relationship, since Adam and Eve. However, headaches are not lies, if nothing they are frustrating as hell. The symptoms are pain tearing apart the head, forehead or the eyes, nausea, irritability and loss of appetite. Home remedy suggests a paste made from grounded clove, cinnamon and almond to be applied on the forehead. A quarter teaspoon of clove powder in one teaspoon of cinnamon oil, applied on the pain zone, also provides cure.

Acne, occurs due to a myriad reasons and likewise there are a host of skin care treatments. Green coconut water or mehndi, juice of basil leaf blended with Chandan paste are traditional natural home remedies. However, a regular use of TCA peels can really give you a skin, free from blemishes.

Natural Home remedies are here since ages. Would they have been, if they had not worked?

When Is It Time To See A Doctor About Your Acne?

Your first line of defense against acne is over-the-counter medications. If they don't seem to be helping, and after six to eight weeks you acne is getting worse... it's time to see a doctor. You will know it's time for medical help when?

- Your acne causes you psychological distress.

- There are big, tender pimples on your face.

- You begin to see some scarring

- If you have dark skin and dark patches form where the pimples used to be.

What treatment can you expect the doctor to recommend?

First of all your family doctor may send you to a dermatologist if you have severe acne.

Acne can be treated with medications that are either applied to the skin or taken by mouth. Any treatment will be designed to attack the things that trigger acne, like....

- An increase in sebum that leads to a narrowing of the sebaceous glands and produces the bacteria that causes acne

In most cases you can continue with any home remedies that you have been using. The treatment of teenage acne usually will continue until the suffer moves into their 20s.

The first attempt at treatment often begins with lotions or creams that are applied directly to the skin's surface.

Your doctor may initiate a treatment with azelaic acid (eg Skinoren cream) or benzoyl peroxide (eg Panoxyl, Acnecide) for mild to moderate acne. These medications help prevent the narrowing of the openings of the sebaceous glands and slow the growth of the acne bacterium.

A common treatment is a product that combines benzoyl peroxide with a topical antibiotic such as erythromycin (Benzamycin gel), or clindamycin (Duac once daily gel), or treat the outbreak with a topical antibiotic alone, eg clindamycin (Dalacin T), erythromycin (Eryacne gel), tetracycline (Topicycline).

Doctors often prescribe adapalene (Differin) for people with blackheads, whiteheads and mild inflammatory acne. Women should only use adapalene if they are using effective contraception, such as contraceptive pills. Pregnant women must not use adapalene. Topical tretinoin (Retin-A) and isotretinoin (Isotrex gel) have similar uses and exclusions.

Systemic treatment means medicines that are taken orally.

Strange as it may seem adult women with severe acne may benefit from treatment with contraceptive pills containing anti-androgens (Dianette).

For people with severe inflammatory acne, long-term treatment with oral antibiotics such as tetracycline or minocycline (eg Minocin), combined with one of the medications mentioned above are often effective. Tetracycline antibiotics are never given to pregnant women; women who are breastfeeding; or children under 12 years of age.

For patients with severe cystic acne that does not improve with other medications, oral isotretinoin (Roaccutane) is used as a last resort. It is very important that women should neither be pregnant, nor get pregnant, while taking isotretinoin.

Isotretinoin is not suitable for people with liver or kidney disease. The medicine has several severe side effects which is why it can only be prescribed by a dermatologist, but it also often effect an almost miracle like cure of acne.

That brings us to rule number one... don't stress over your acne. You aren't the only one who has ever had the problem. Just relax and get to work doing everything you can to keep it under control.

A Bumpy Ride Towards Aging

Picture this; the snow-white clear skin that you have been proud of since your teen years has suddenly poofed into a wicked witch's warty face upon reaching the age of 30! Acne, at my age? This is often the distressed statement of pockmarked men and women in their 30's to 40's afflicted with adult acne.

This problem is surely not the work of a vengeful sorcerer. Acne vulgaris is what this most common skin disorder in the United States is scientifically called. Statistics has it that 15 million people in US alone are afflicted with acne. It is an embarrassing problem among teenagers. But this condition is not only limited to those awkward years. Adult acne is also prevalent, especially among people in the age group of 25 to 40.

Acne is a disease that resulted from the accumulation of sebum, a highbrow term for oil, underneath the skin. When this happens and the desquamation (human's way of molting) process goes wrong, the pores become clogged. Aggravation will continue and soon infection sets in. A bad bug called Propionibacterium acnes causes this infection. Overproduction of oil and mismanagement of the process of shedding cells equals bunged pores. Clogged pores plus P. acnes, the scoundrel, equals breakout. Those pesky zits are produced just as easy as that.

One of the pushing forces that may cause the occurrence of acne includes the elevation of levels of testosterone among adolescents. No, it's not Toblerone misspelled. No matter how many anecdotes you've heard about chocolate addiction causing zits to dominate your face, there's really no enough scientific basis to prove this. Testosterone is a chemical produced by the body that increase sebum production and change the keratin of the hair follicles. Testosterone is an androgen. Androgen is a hormone produced in high levels among males. This is the reason behind the worse cases of acne among teenage boys more than girls.

Adult acne is called acne rosacea. It is characterized by the following: unsightly thick, red skin on the nose and cheeks, pus-filled blisters, small red bumps, and small red blood vessels seen on the skin surface. It is more commonly linked to increased levels of stress. Isn't it interesting how the body reacts to this stimulus? NOT. When exhausted, like Gizmo getting wet, our skin could actually give birth to little monsters! Though they are not as troublesome as gremlins, they could be just as annoying as well. Seriously, pimples can be difficult to deal with, and can cause depression and anxiety in an adult the same way it can in a teen. Pressure from work and family responsibilities is thought to possibly affect the normal balance of our hormones. And hormones messed up means having to put up with bumpy complexion caused by adult acne.

Aside from stress-triggered hormonal imbalance, hot foods alcohol consumption, and smoking are also considered to exacerbate adult acne. This may help you reconsider your food preferences and habits.

Acne lesions are commonly found on the face, but they can also pop out anytime on the neck, chest, back, shoulders, scalp, and upper arms and legs. Adult acne is more persistent than teen acne. It is because adults are consistently exposed to the many factors that cause breakouts. Another hitch of adult acne is permanent scarring. It is an evidence of the inevitable reality that with the coming of age, the skin loses its erstwhile ability to repair itself. As if there's a need to be reminded of that when your face starts to wrinkle already. Now here's more to shriek in terror for, especially those in their mid-20's: adult acne causes PREMATURE AGING. Isn't that just nerve-wracking? Enough of the endless yada's regarding how adult acne could further destroy us. As how master Yoda puts is, educated we must be with the crusade towards clearer AND younger skin. Or at least skin that is just our age we must maintain.

At the first sight of those wicked pimples together with gray hair and wrinkles (talk about aging signs overkill), just like with teenagers, impulse dictates squeezing. But you very well know that squeezing is a big no-no. How old are you? You surely don't need any more marks of time's passage.

In severe cases, consulting a dermatologist would best help in dealing with adult acne. The dermatologist may prescribe an antibiotic, vitamin A derivative like Isotretinoin or other acne drug available. More women may be afflicted with adult acne than men. Pregnancy is another story if you are prescribed anti-acnes, especially Isotretinoin.

Proper skin care may not guarantee a flawless complexion. But a good skin care regimen may aid in warding off bacteria that worsen adult acne. If you love scrubbing for its squeaky-clean feel, think twice. It can render more damage to your already-blemished skin.

Another hint especially for women: use NON-COMEDOGENIC products. Non-comedogenic basically means anything that does not clog skin pores or cause acne. Do your homework and look for as many non-comedogenic versions of the skin care products you use. It's worth it, you'll see.

If stress is linked with adult acne, then, disengaging yourself from stressful activities might work wonders, right? A day away from work or catching up on one of your hobbies won't hurt.

There's this bold Jean Kerr reacting on a classical quotation.

I'm tired of all this nonsense about beauty being only skin-deep. That's deep enough. What do you want, an adorable pancreas?

It doesn't mean the depreciation of a pleasing personality. Such reaction only imparts a message of giving value to what boosts your self-esteem. If it's a clear complexion along with your aging gracefully, so be it. No adult acne should put a shame on your face and get in your way of becoming more confident.

Inner Cleavage!

I read an article back in March 2005 that had the words of the title of this article in it. I picked it up at the Cancer Center at Beaumont Hospital, in Detroit Michigan. It was a heartfelt story of a woman who had lost her breasts to Breast Cancer. The story went on to talk about Melissa Etheridge and of her deliberate boldness at the 2005 Grammy's, when she came out with a bald head, after her cancer treatments, as if proudly displaying it as her gift of life. The story went on to talk about women who in desperation for survival had in some ways traded their beauty for life.

I related to the story, being a breast cancer survivor myself. But, what truly touched me about that article was the woman in the story talking about how when her outer beauty had faded away, and during treatments, she was left with spirit, raw and powerful and hanging on with claws, daring her to live.

What a concept. Have you ever been dared to live? Tim McGraw has an old song titled Live like you were dying, about a man, who seemingly is given a certain number of years or months to live due to some type of fatal disease. In the song when asked what he was to do about this news, he replied with, skydiving, mountain climbing, and a wish to all of his friends to one day know what it feels like to live like you were dying.

I remember what it felt like going through my cancer treatments. I remember the ugliness of my body and the forced humbleness of a deep seeded pride. I recall wondering if I would live through it, the pain, the blisters and stress. Looking back, I realize, I lived every day. I lived more then each day then I sometimes do now. Why is it that we have to be faced with something tragic to appreciate LIFE? What is it in our human-ess that makes us forget the grace and mercy of God and the power of prayer until we are brought to our knees at a crucial point in our life and MADE to remember? Funny, how God sometimes has a way of reminding us of the fragility of life. I believe He does this just so that we DO remember.

I recently was reminded again last week when another lump was found after almost two years of survival. I'm a prayerful, faithful woman, but I found myself even MORE prayerful. I found more time to enjoy my days, to kiss my kids and tell my husband I loved him. I also found a lot more time for God. Hmmm, makes me wonder why. But isn't life funny that way? We move along forgetting that our time is short, our days are numbered, our fate is destined and we truly have no idea when Gods hand will reach down and pluck us from our busy, appointment filled, carpooling, grocery shopping, house cleaning, business building days. These precious days that we can't seem to find time to get on our knees and give thanks because we don't have the time. Why, because our lives are just too full. Too full. I want you to remember that last statement. Life IS full. Praise God our lives are filled! Live every single day of it!

We have one month, one day a year to get our families together to gather in praise and thanksgiving. A National Holiday will do that for most of us. But how about not waiting for that Thanksgiving Holiday or that crucial moment of unknown fate.

When you find yourself on your knees at times like these, stay there. We could all stand to kneel a little longer. My hope is that this year we remember Gods graces and appreciate our lives and everything in them because God is good! Something as simple as feeling your pulse each morning is proof of that. Keep on remembering. While you're at it, remember those full days when your inbox is so full that you can barely find time to breathe? Those are the days to be grateful for. Those are the days to get on your knees in praise because when your in-box is empty, you're dead.

By the way that lump in my breast? Nothing but a small cyst. Cancer Free another day! Praise the heavens for this and every day. I intend to fully live ALL of mine. How about you?

Aerobic Workouts For Weight Loss

Aerobic workouts are an effective way to control your weight, exercise your heart, strengthen your muscles and just make you feel healthier. It can also help you live a longer, healthier life and enhance your well being.

Aerobic workouts are any exercise that helps your body use oxygen more efficiently. This is done by increasing your heart rate and breathing harder for an extended period of time.

Regular aerobic activity can increase your ability to take in and transport that oxygen improving your aerobic capacity.

A regular aerobic routine gives your heart the kind of workout that helps it do a better job of delivering oxygen to all your organs. It makes your heart more efficient and stronger.

When you raise your heart rate your body begins to used stored carbohydrates and fatty acids for energy. That boosts your mood, helps you with weight loss and can even lower your blood sugar levels.

Aerobic activity makes you feel better about yourself so you can enjoy life more. It can also help increase your stamina and even help you manage stress.

A session of exercise and cardiovascular fitness can help you relax after a stressful day at work and help you sleep better at night. When you exercise, the brain releases endorphins that put you in a better mood so you feel good.

As we get older, if you maintain a regular aerobic exercise routine your muscles will stay stronger and help you avoid fractures and falls. This helps keep you independent for a longer period of time. People who exercise on a regular basis live longer than those who don't.

If you think aerobic activity has to be expensive, think again. If you don't belong to a gym or have a exercise machine at home, try taking a brisk walk, swimming laps, riding a bicycle or even go out dancing. Any activity that raises the heart rate for at least 20 minutes is considered aerobic.

Life is meant to be enjoyed. Exercise can help you live longer, stay healthier and feel great. The benefits of regular aerobic workouts are not just good for weight loss but good for your body, your mind and even your soul.

Treating Insomnia Naturally

Sleep is something that every human being requires. For some people they only need a few hours of sleep every night, but for others if they don't get at a minimum eight hours, they cannot function properly during the day. Their work, their relationships and their life is impacted. Sleep in fundamental to a healthy and happy life.

Insomnia is a problem that affects millions of people each night. If you are one of these individuals and you've spent a night filled with sleeplessness, you would most certainly welcome any method that would guarantee sleep. Having first hand knowledge of how difficult it is not to be able to sleep, gives a person an appreciation for how valuable resting our bodies is.

Insomnia can be a chronic condition for some people. It may begin as a symptom of an illness or during a particularly stressful time in someone's life and it causes such a drastic disruption in the individual's sleep pattern that they struggle to find a way to regain a normal sleep pattern. Spending years struggling to find a method to sleep is a frustrating experience.

Traditional medicine offers many alternatives for people who have suffered from serious insomnia. Sleeping pills are a commonly prescribed remedy. Although they do adequately treat the insomnia, they also often have serious side-effects. One of the most serious side-effects is that they are often addictive. It becomes a trade-off for those who choose this approach. Although their insomnia is treated, they become dependent on medication and in some cases have to stay on that medication for the rest of their lives.

There are natural alternatives that a person can take to treat the insomnia. Some of these are in the form of a pill or a tablet which consists of a combination of herbs. Herbal teas are another popular choice for people who suffer from sleep problems. You simply brew a pot of the fragrant tea and sip it shortly before bed. The soothing effects of the tea lull you to sleep without the chemicals associated with traditional sleep medication. There are a variety of these types of teas available and the taste is very welcome and pleasant.

An old stand-by that many people turn to when they suffer from the occasional bout of insomnia is to warm a glass of milk. There is a chemical that is released in milk once it is heated. This chemical is called tryptophan and it works to relax the body and help you to drift off to sleep. Besides being a natural remedy for insomnia, milk also has the added benefit of being a significant source of calcium.

Suffering from insomnia can change a person's life in many ways. Without the foundation of a steady and regular pattern of sleep, they aren't able to function to the best of their ability. By researching natural remedies for insomnia, the sleeper will once again find the rest they need and do so in a way that is healthiest for their entire body.

(MS) Multiple Sclerosis Treatment with Alternative Medicine: Medical Intuition & Energy Healing

Montel Williams called it an insidious disease. Richard Pryor passed away with its complications, and Michael Wellford, when diagnosed, just said I'm NOT having it!

Multiple Sclerosis or MS is a slow progressing disorder and then disease that drains its owners of energy and then life functioning abilities. Multiple Sclerosis symptoms, like a shadow, are always there, even in remission, and ever present in its ultimate progression.

When you receive notification that you need to be tested for multiple sclerosis symptoms, your mind definitely has something to deal with. There are so many what ifs to consider, and an entire new future to contemplate that is mind-boggling. Even the strongest individuals succumb to moments of random horror, selective thought patterns, and then a bone chilling resolve of sorts as to how to handle their diagnosis. When that blood test and MRI scan come back negative for those that are lucky, you are ever grateful for being spared the positive test result.

As an international alternative medical specialist, medical intuitive and intuitive distant energy healer I work with Multiple Sclerosis alternative medicine treatment for clients. Although addressing physical problems is a major concern, first one must address the underlying emotional and mental contributions that direct the body to manifest the disease. If the disorder is not a Karmic journey that the soul has chosen to experience, then I begin with positive mind over matter actions, attitudes and affirmations. In deciding right now, this very minute, to address and make positive free will choices to change your mind's attitude about your multiple sclerosis symptoms immediately starts a healing process.

I have found that in early stage MS mental positive attitude creates a greater immune system response that in turn helps diminish symptoms. It's the old adage of YOUR mind over YOUR matter. Your cells are here to house your life force energy called your Soul. You are the commander of your cells, ie your body, and YOU are the superintendent of your building ie your body, so how you handle your maintenance is all part of the healing journey. Having a can do attitude directs your cellular structure to do just that, assist in healing itself.

My personal multiple sclerosis research has shown that the fatigue suffered by most MS clients can be greatly diminished by mental resolve to get up and get going and to command your cells to do so. Further investigations have illustrated that prayers, affirmations, and talking to and commanding your cells have great beneficial results. Once we have established a solid mental directive to be as physically healed as possible, we now address physical concerns and complications with energy healing.

Energy healing and multiple sclerosis shows great promise. By using directed electromagnetic bio molecular energy healing, we can reframe bio structures to their initial blueprint of health. Neural pathways can be restructured so that those with paralysis can move their legs or arms. Numb extremities can be revived and regenerated to sensation. In several clients' with these complications, after the cellular and neural connections were restored and regenerated, physical therapy was used to restore their muscles that had atrophied due to lack of use over months or years. Other sensations such as tingling can be reversed by regenerating the nerve's mylen sheath. To date, various multiple sclerosis complications can be reversed, and or put into remission or lessened with energy healing.

In the future, energy healing and using mind over your matter biofeedback with your cells, will be another form of multiple sclerosis treatment that will facilitate and create healthy bodies for those experiencing MS.

Peritoneal Mesothelioma Treatment Costs

Peritoneal Mesothelioma is a form of cancer that attacks the lining of the abdomen, enveloping many of the organs in the abdomen by a thin membrane of mesothelial cells, known as the peritoneum. It is caused due to exposure to asbestos. This tumor as a long lactation period and is often diagnosed 30-50 years after the exposure. Though currently no treatment is available for curing this disease, a timely diagnosis (depending upon the size of the tumor), may in improve the patients? quality of life. In some cases of early diagnosis, the treatments can result in extending the life of victim up to five years, in comparison to the normal lifespan of one year for a peritoneal mesothelioma patient. While the current survival rate for peritoneal mesothelioma patients is low, new peritoneal mesothelioma treatments are in development, and some show great promise. Radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and/or surgery are the most common options available today for the treatment of peritoneal mesothelioma.

The cost incurred in overall treatment of this tumor is almost the same as the cost involved in the treatment of other tumors. It is difficult to determine exact figures as there is variability in treatment plans, but cancer treatments can cost many thousands of dollars per month. Overall, cancer treatment, including peritoneal mesothelioma treatment, costs over $40 billion in the US each year. For a typical individual, who already has been victimized by this dreadful disease, the treatment costs can prove to very expensive and unaffordable. If you have been diagnosed and are suffering from peritoneal mesothelioma, it is advisable to consult a peritoneal mesothelioma lawyer, who can guide you as to your legal rights and how you can recover compensation from the party responsible for your exposure to asbestos. An expert lawyer can help you recover compensation for bills, lost wages, and punitive damages, which can go up to millions of dollars.

Traditional Mesothelioma Treatments

Treatment for malignant mesothelioma varies due to a number of factors: the location of the cancer, the stage or severity of the cancer , and a patient?s personal preference. Naturally, mesothelioma sufferers whose cancer is caught and treated earlier have a greater chance of prolonging their life. Traditional mesothelioma treatments include surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy, or a combination of the three which are outlined below.

Surgery

Surgical treatment for mesothelioma is employed to either remove the cancer from the affected area of the body (i.e., the lung or abdominal cavity) or to alleviate pain. If the mesothelioma has spread, it may be impossible to remove all of the cancer with surgery; however surgical intervention may help lessen pain.

Types of Surgery

Pneumonectomy

Pneumonectomy refers to the surgical removal of a lung. There are two types of pneumonectomies:

Traditional Pneumonectomy ? In which the diseased lung is removed.

Extrapleural Pneumonectomy ? In which the diseased lung, as well as part of the pericardium, diaphragm or parietal pleura on the same side of the chest, are removed.

Palliative Procedures

These procedures do not cure mesothelioma, but rather function to alleviate or control symptoms:

Thoracentisis ? In this procedure, a needle is inserted into the chest cavity, either to drain fluid for diagnosis, or to drain fluid to relieve pain.

Pleurectomy/Decortication ? This surgery removes the pleura in order to reduce pain or prevent the recurrence of pleural effusion.

Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy involves the use of drugs to kill cancer cells and/or to keep cancer cells from multiplying. The drugs may be administered intravenously or taken in pill form, and are often used in combination with surgery. Chemotherapy may also kill healthy cell in addition to the cancer cells, so side effects can be quite severe, including: nausea, vomiting, fatigue, hair loss, constipation, decreased appetite and mouth sores.

Radiation

Radiation treatment involves the use of high level radiation to target and kill cancer cells in a localized area. The therapy is delivered in several courses, each one breaking down the cancer cells so they may be excreted by the body. Like chemotherapy, radiation may kill or injure healthy cells and thereby cause unpleasant side effects such as: fatigue, hair loss, skin irritation, nausea and difficulty breathing.

Prostate Health

Diet and lifestyle play important roles in keeping the prostate healthy. Food and the environment influence the way the body functions. The body has natural defenses against allowing normal cells to become cancerous and allowing cancer cells to grow. Ingestion of certain nutrients may decrease the chances of developing prostate cancer or reduce the likelihood of recurrence. Certain nutrients may also slow down the progression of the disease.

Adopting certain dietary changes is an important step towards better prostate health. Obesity is known to increase the risk of prostate cancer. Research shows that prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test results in obese men can be lower despite the presence of disease, potentially leading to a delay in diagnosis and treatment. The recovery from surgery tends to be longer and more difficult and the risk of death due to prostate cancer can be higher.

Weight management is essential for good prostate health. Regular exercise is necessary to maintain muscle strength and endurance. An increase in the intake of vegetables and nuts can prove beneficial. Tomatoes, watermelons, pink grapefruits, guava and papaya contain lycopene, a naturally occurring chemical. Lycopene is a powerful antioxidant that help protect the body against cancer.

Vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage and Brussels sprouts contain sulforaphane, a compound that increases activity of proteins and clears out carcinogens from the body. Carcinogens are substances known to cause cancer and are ingested into our body on a regular basis.

Isoflayones found in soy and polyphenols found in green tea, interrupt the growth pathways of cancer cells. Asian men are known to consume soy and green tea regularly and hence are at a lesser risk of being afflicted with prostate cancer.

Vitamins and minerals in food help regulate many of the body?s processes and functions. They help monitor the balance between cancer cell growth and cancer cell death. Research over the years has shown that the loss of vitamins and minerals contribute to uncontrolled cancer cell growth. An increase in the intake of foods rich in vitamins and minerals like lettuce, cereals, citrus fruits, milk and carrots, help reduce the risk of prostate cancer. Since men lose zinc during every seminal emission, their need for the mineral is higher than a woman's. Pumpkin seeds, oysters and shellfish are good sources of zinc. Following these simple dietary tips ensures good prostrate health.

Exercises to Improve Your Health Energy Digestion and Your Love of Life!

Did the title of this article catch your attention? I hope so. Most of us don't mind finding out new ways to feel better and have more energy. Yet, I'm afraid I'm not going to teach you anything that you don't already know.

Some people talk about the ?benefits? of exercising, such as increasing blood flow to your brain and major organs, improving digestion, reducing stress, increasing alertness, and boosting your immune system. That's a way to look at it.

Another way is that since our bodies are meant to move everyday, so it's not that exercises brings us any ?benefits? - this should be our natural state - but it's more that not exercising actually has negative consequences!

According to an article published in the Health & Fitness sections of the About.com Site, skipping exercise for two days in a row has bad effects on health.

It makes sense that we're meant to live an active life. Being sedentary was not the norm for human beings, even in the Western world, until just a few decades ago.

If you want better health, improved digestion, more energy and love of life, make a commitment to exercise EVERY SINGLE DAY, even if it's just to go out for a 30- minute walk.

Personally, I never had a session of exercise - biking, a long walk, hiking, yoga, weight lifting, or running - that I regretted. Even though I might not have felt like doing it when I started, I never thought to myself, Jeez, I shouldn't have gone for that bike ride or That was such a bad idea to take that yoga class!

***Exercise and Hunger***

When you exercise everyday, you will awaken your ?true hunger.? If you've read my book ?The Raw Secrets,? (http://www.therawsecrets.com) you know the importance of eating when you are truly hungry.

We know for example that hunger is widely recognized as a sign of health. Lack of appetite is also widely recognized as a sign of ill health.

Now, many of you have written to ask about this true hunger concept. Some people say that if they only eat when they are truly hungry, they hardly eat anything at all! Not even enough to sustain them.

The key to awaken this lost sense of hunger is to exercise everyday.

***Walking More for Health***

I'm personally trying to implement a new habit in my life. Every morning after I wake up, I go for a walk. While this is not the only exercise I try to get, it is a great way to start the day.

Otherwise, what I normally do is either start working immediately or check my e- mails. Not a good thing. With the morning walk, it gives me time to wake up, breathe some fresh air, get some exercise, meditate (or something like it), and if I want I can listen to audio-books on my iPod while walking.

Are there many health benefits to walking? Yes, but those are many health benefits of exercising in general. A 1-hour brisk walk with a few hills burns around 300 calories, so as many as a 30 minute jog.

Walk an exercise most people can do and the joys of walking are numerous. Breathing fresh air, taking time to see new places, beautiful surroundings, etc. It's also an exercise most people can do or start doing.

If one day you have absolutely no desire to exercise, go for a 1-hour walk. You'll feel much better afterwards.

A dog needs to walk everyday or else it's not going to stay healthy. Isn't it the same for us?

***Rebounding Exercises for Health***

What exercises can you do on a rainy day? Some people like to go jog in the rain, the mud and the cold. They are the brave ones. I like to watch them from my window. But seriously, that's not my style.

What can you do instead? I found a great workout I can do inside on a rainy do (or when it's too cold to go outside). It's rebounding, a way to exercise that is complete and has several health benefits.

I won't talk about the so-called benefits of cellular exercise. Because of the up- and-down movement of rebounding, apparently the lymph gets moving and this helps to detoxify and slow-down aging. I'm not sure if this is true, but it sounds great.

For me, the real benefits of rebounding is that it's something you can do inside on a rainy day. Plus, it can be a great cardio-endurance-toning workout if you know what to do with the rebounder.

So two tips for rebounding:

1- Get a good rebounder. Not those cheap ones at Walmart. Get something that will last and will give you a real bound. My rebounder is a NEEDAK that I got on E-bay.

2- Get a DVD workout for rebounder. Most people have no idea what to do with their rebounder. I had one for years and the only thing I was doing with it was to jump up and down once in a while, and it got boring. Since then, I got a great DVD which as several workouts, one which is 45 minute long and is great for many aspects of fitness. You can get it from Urban Rebounding, a company that also sells rebounders.

***The Magic of Calisthenics***

Everybody should learn a series of body-weight exercise. Not only are they something you can do anywhere (even when traveling), but they are also great to build strength and endurance.

Calisthenics include pushups, pullups, squats, lunges, and so on, including the thousands of variation on each exercise that can allow you to get the results that you want (strength training or endurance).

In a future article, I will give you a routine of body-weight exercise you can practice anywhere to have a great workout at no cost.

***Multi-Tasking***

Finally, I'd like to add that doing cardio-vascular exercise or walking can be a wonderful way to grow and learn. You can listen to recordings (either on a tape or CD player or iPod) to learn languages, listen to audio books, and learn something useful at the same time.

When I was studying German, Spanish and Portuguese, I was using every single minute I could to listen to language learning methods, including during exercise (but not during sleep!).

Now, I listen to audio books (I have a subscription to Audible - http:// www.audible.com) and learn about things that interest me. I listen to audio-books when I'm on my bike, when I go for a walk, and of course when I drive. I listen to music too, and sometimes I just look at the landscape.

Whether you use this exercise time to also learn and grow is entirely up to you. But keep in mind that daily exercise in a health requirement - and also a great joy!

Treating Depression Successfully Without Drugs

In the past treatment of depression was done by many different types of talk therapy by psychologists. There are over 250 psychotherapy techniques, and NONE of them have been proven to work any better than any other.

But, the fact remains that very few depressed patients were ever cured by talk type psychotherapy. As a matter of fact, it has been shown in several studies that talking to a sympathetic friend, even a bartender, or almost anyone who will listen is about as good as talking to a clinician (at $100 up per hour).

The APA has neatly classified several different types of depression (manic, bipolar, unipolar, post-partum, grief, etc - mostly for the purposes of legally making them covered by health insurance.)

Psychiatrists would seem to have somewhat of an advantage here. They have the battery of drugs that seem to help depressed persons at least get thru life without too many suicides from depression. Here's another fact. Nobody ever got depressed because of poor toilet training as a child. Freud had a lot of good ideas, but this wasn't one of them. There's been a lot written about stress causing depression, and stress is a component (as poor toilet training may be). But, it doesn't CAUSE depression directly. So, just what does cause depression?

The Orthomolecular Theory and my experience in taught me that there were three basic causes of depression. Clearing up these stresses cleared up the patient's ability to withstand the normal stress of everyday living as well as the heavy stresses put on some at times.

These three basic causes are:

?Mineral Toxicity (perhaps 10-15%)

?Nutritional Deficiency (perhaps 15-20%

?Allergies and Other Stress Factors (perhaps 75-85%)

The following is pretty brief, and my book ?The Health Revolution? has much more information and actual case studies of many different types of depression and anxiety, etc. It also describes the actual therapy I used in each case, and how it worked. This book may be found at: http://Alternate-Health.com/health.html

Mineral Toxicity

There are several minerals that may cause depression (at toxic levels) directly. These include toxic levels of mercury, copper, lead, and others. (In the case of copper, medium toxic levels of copper can cause depression, and higher levels may cause schizophrenia.) Lead is still a problem, but becoming less likely due to removing it from gasoline and paint. I even had one patient with arsenic causing depression.

Nutritional Deficiency

As mentioned above, almost every kind of stress causes the body to use up various vitamins and minerals faster. This means that when you are under unusual stress, you should be taking more vitamins.

Allergies and Stress

Now we come to the real meat. Allergy! Or, more precisely, both allergies and/or food/chemical sensitivities. To allergists, they are two separate problems, and until recently, few MD allergists even considered food sensitivity at all. Both allergy and sensitivity can cause all the same symptoms/disease as the other. Ranging from schizophrenia and depression to hyperactivity and bedwetting, arthritis and skin itching. The list of potential symptoms of allergy and/or sensitivity is as long as your arm.. It surprises many people that most of the brain problems of depression, ADD/ADHD, schizophrenia, epilepsy, etc can be, and often are caused by allergy and/or sensitivity.

Talk about stress. Either allergy or sensitivity causes huge stress to the body, and stress is additive. So, if you have an emotional strain in your life at the same time as an allergen is affecting you, the overall stress becomes much more, and your body needs much more in the way of good nutrition to help get thru this stressful period. Post Partum Depression and PMS are often examples of additive stress.

In virtually every depressed patient I ever saw in my practice the depression lifted when the combination of stress from allergy and/or mineral toxicity was dealt with. (I estimate about 80% allergy/sensitivity and 20% mineral toxicity with a lot of overlap.) By curing the underlying physical problem, the ordinary stress of modern life can be dealt with. I should mention at this point that whenever I saw a depression patient for the first time, I immediately started them on what I called Immediate Relief. This was a combination of 500 mg of Tryptophan, and 500 mg of Tyrosine - from 1-3 times per day along with at least 50 mg B complex at the same time. None of these cause any side effects (unless you are allergic to capsules or some of the fillers used.) This helped to lift their depression during the search for the underlying problem, and helped defuse thoughts about suicide. There are now nutritional supplements with these combinations on the market.

In April 2002, I leased two EEG biofeedback units to two different people that have reported back to me. One, was a suicidal and depressed young man. With 40 1/2 hour sessions, he has completely turned around, and is quite normal. No depression symptoms at all. The other was an older woman, and she reported that after training her son (ADD/ADHD), she felt much better just watching him train, so she did sessions herself. She didn't report how many, but not only was her son free of his ADD/ADHD symptoms, but her depression was gone as well. (Since that was written, many more cases have been successful.)

Dr Von Hilsheimer reports 100% success with all types of depression in his biofeedback practice in Orlando Florida. How does it work? My theory first voiced to Dr Von in 2000 is that this EEG BF training somehow trains the brain to change the effect of some allergens on the brain/body. My first test of the Bate Auditory Training system proved that this theory is at least partially correct. Many of the people in this test lost several allergies/sensitivities.

The Bate Auditory BrainWave Training System

In 2004, I realized that if EEG Biofeedback (neurofeedback) could solve various ?brain problems? such as: ADD/ADHD, Autism, depression, insomnia, etc, by simply changing some specific brain wave bands, then it should be possible to do the same thing using passive audio. I made up a test audio, and tested it on over 40 volunteers (who all paid to take part in this test). The results were mixed, but overall it proved that raising one brain wave (called SMR) did change the allergen effect(s) on the brain. Every depressed person, and every person with Insomnia who used the audio for more than a month solved their problems. (Insomnia/sleep problems is often a component of depression.)

Since I only used the audio message to raise the SMR brain wave, there were some ADD/ADHD persons who did not get as much benefit as hoped. (Included in this test were 3 kids that hadn?t been helped by EEG biofeedback, and they weren?t helped by this audio either). (I knew that NASA had found that lowering the Theta brain wave increased attention/concentration.) In 2005, I devised a new audio that included lowering of the Theta brain wave as well as raising the SMR brain wave. This was also tested on over 40 participants, most of whom paid up to $100 each. Every ADD/ADHD person tested, (who used the audio for over 6 weeks) improved dramatically. Even some autistic kids did very well, and the parents are continuing it?s use. I cannot, and do not claim that the Bate Auditory BrainWave Training system will ?cure? any brain problems, but to date, I can state that this system has solved a very high percentage of such problems, comparable to EEG biofeedback (estimated by most at around 85%) at a fraction of the cost.

Treat Acne With These Medication Tips

Acne is a common skin disorder caused by several factors including heredity, an increase in hormones and other hormonal changes. More commonly known as ?zits? or ?pimples?, acne often occurs to an individual during puberty, after which its occurrence decreases and may even disappear completely when a person reaches his twenties. Some individuals, however, continue to suffer from acne well into their thirties and forties. Acne produces immediate physical effects, but often its most damaging effects are psychological, such as low self-esteem and depression.

Acne is known to be partly hereditary, but why some people get it while others don?t is yet to be fully determined. There are, however, some factors that have been found to be commonly related to the occurrence of acne, such as hormonal activity (for instance during the menstrual cycle), bacteria found on the pores, hyperactive sebaceous glands (that is, the glands found in the skin which secrete an oily substance called ?sebum?), the intake of anabolic steroids, and the build up of dead skin cells. Various hormones in the body have been found to be linked to the incidence of acne.

A common misconception about acne is that it is caused by a constant diet of French fries, potato chips, and other greasy food. Such is yet to be proven, however, and most health professionals suggest that people who suffer from acne should vary the types of food they consume and avoid those that appear to affect the severity of their acne.

Another misconception about acne is that it occurs due to excessive dirt brought about by deficient personal hygiene. On the contrary, the bacteria that cause acne are not brought about by dirt that has accumulated on the skin, and instead are the bacteria that have always been present on the skin. As such, regular cleansing of the skin can help reduce the incidence of acne, but not fully prevent it.

There are various ways and numerous products available for treating and preventing acne. A regular intake of generous amounts of fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds is an ideal and healthy way to prevent, or at least decrease the incidence of acne. Try including a salad in at least one of your meals everyday, and opt for fruit smoothies and shakes instead of soda and other artificial beverages.

It is also recommended to drink plenty of water, at least two liters a day. Doing so will keep your skin hydrated and allow effective shedding of dead skin cells, which would help prevent blocked pores that lead to further acne.

Skin exfoliation is a particular method that has been proven effective against acne. Exfoliating allows for the peeling of the top layer of the skin, which helps prevent the accumulation of dead skin cells. While preventing pores from being blocked by the build-up of dead skin cells, it can also help unclog already blocked pores.

Products that contain Benzoyl peroxide are also effective in treating acne. Such products, which often come in gel or cream form, are easily available and can be purchased over the counter. The gel or cream should be used in moderation, often applied once to twice daily by rubbing it over the affected region of the skin. Though proven effective, the use of such products may often cause dryness of the skin as a side effect. Moisturizers are thus often used alongside the product.

There are also both topical and oral antibiotics that can be used to treat acne. Topical antibiotics are externally applied, thereby avoiding the risk of such side effects as an upset stomach or inappropriate drug interactions. It is as effective as an oral antibiotic and is best used when treating the face, but can prove to be problematic when one is dealing larger portions of the skin. An oral antibiotic, on the other hand, produces much the same results as the topical kind, but needs to be ingested to work.

Females can also use hormonal treatments to control acne. Contraceptive pills have some effect on treating acne and are sometimes used, but the least risky method with very minimal side effects is the injection of the hormone cortisone directly into a pimple. The procedure is done by a dermatologist, and it reduces the inflammation and redness of the pimple almost instantly after the procedure?s administration.

In treating acne, it is best to seek the advice of your dermatologist to find the most suitable method or product to help treat your acne condition.

Acne Free Skin through Ayurveda

Acne is a very common skin problem which affects young people at their puberty and few adults till they reach 45. Acne are referred as Youvana pitikas (which means the eruptions of youth) in ayurveda. This shows the prevalence of acne from ages. Ayurveda has described the causes of acne and recommends the best natural herbal acne remedies too.

What causes acne?

A large number of oil producing glands called ?sebaceous glands? are present under the skin ( see figure (http://www.ayurhelp.com/Normalskin.htm) - skin cross section) on face, back, chest and shoulders. During puberty or menopause due to the influence of the sex hormones, which are produced in male and female, these glands become more active and produce an oily secretion called ?sebum?. The sebum makes the skin more oily .The excessive sebum clogs the skin pore or the pit of the hair follicle forming acne.

The blocked pore or acne acts as an excellent habitat for bacteria. The bacterial infection causes inflammation (red, painful swelling of the infected area) of the clogged pore or hair follicle leading to eruption of pimples. Vata and Kapha are two main doshas, which are involved in eruption of acne and pimples. Rakta dhatu or blood also plays an important role in formation of acne.

Vata when gets vitiated due to unhealthy diet and lifestyles affects other two doshas (kapha and pitta) to aggravate them. Aggravated pitta affects rakta dhatu or blood. The vitiated blood affects the skin and causes excess secretion of oil from sebaceous glands. Kapha has sticky property. The aggravated kapha imparts the stickiness to the oil produced by sebaceous glands of skin. Thus the thick sebaceous plugs are formed in skin pores and hair follicles leading to eruption of acne.

Acne worsens when

1.grease, dirt or other harsh chemicals accumulate on skin.

2.you have Increased stress levels.

3.you indulge in Squeezing or pinching of acne.

4.when there are hormonal imbalances during menstrual cycle, menopause and puberty.

5.you are under medications like steroids or hormonal therapy.

Precautions to be taken to avoid exaggeration of acne eruptions:

?Avoid foods which are spicy, dry and oily. These may cause indigestion and lead to vitiation of vata.

?Keep a habit of emptying bowels regularly this always normalizes vata.

?Avoid fast foods and soft drinks.

?Wash your face twice daily with mild cleanser.

?Put a hair band to avoid falling of hair on face. The sweat and dirt accumulated on hair may fall on facial skin through hair strands

?Avoid application of scrubs.

?Wash your hair regularly with mild shampoo to keep it clean and avoid dandruff.

?Squeezing and pricking of pimples cause scaring. Hence avoid this

?Avoid exposure of skin to severe climatic conditions.

?Avoid oil based moisturizers. Water based moisturizers are always beneficial.

?Drink plenty of water.

?Practice a regular exercise regimen

Natural Herbal acne Home remedies :

?Wash your face with lukewarm water and mild soap twice a day.

?Wash fresh methi leaves (fenu greek leaves) and grind it to make a paste. Apply it on face and wash it off with lukewarm water after 10 minutes.

?Grind juicy tender neem leaves with turmeric to a consistency of paste. Apply this paste on acne and pimples. Wash this off after it dries.

?Apply a face pack of ripe tomato pulp and wash it off as soon as it dries naturally (preferably after 45 minutes) .

?Do not keep the make up while sleeping. Cleanse it with a mild herbal cleanser.

?Mix besan flour (gram flour) with rose water and apply a face pack.

?Consuming fresh vegetable salads and fresh fruits keeps the skin healthy and resistant to blemishes.

?Drink plenty of water (15 glasses a day)

Hysteric About Headaches?

Headaches are one of the most common health grievances of students, adults and even children, Headaches are very common and usually do not point to a serious illness. But even a mild headache can disrupt your daily activities

What actually happens in your body to cause headache?

The skull bones and brain tissues do not have pain sensitive nerve fibers. But muscles of face, mouth, throat, neck, scalp and blood vessels on the surface and base of brain are sensitive to pain as they contain pain sensitive nerve fibers.

The tip of these nerve fibers gets stimulated by various causes like stress, muscle tension, lack of sleep etc. The stimulated nerve tip sends message up the length of the nerve fiber to the related nerve cells of Brain. Brain locates the region of stimulated nerve tip based on these signals and we feel the pain or ache.

The headache may be mild, chronic or severe depending on the underlying cause and pain bearing capacity of the individual. Our body produces natural pain killing proteins called endorphins. One of the theories suggests that people with low endorphin levels suffer from severe headache and other chronic pains in comparison with people having high endorphin levels.

What triggers headache?

?Anger

?Muscle tension

?Missed meals

?Vigorous exercise

?Sexual excitement

?Infections like Common cold, Flu, Fever, Ear infection, Tooth infection Sinus infection, Pneumonia, etc

?Coughing - too much coughing can cause a form of traction headache.

?Lifestyle causes Hangover, Excessive alcohol, Stress, Fatigue, Tension, Tiredness, Excessive smoking

?Dyspepsia

?Eye conditions

?Systemic or metabolic conditions, Hypertension, Thyroid disease, Anemia, Kidney failure, Uremia

?Brain or head conditions Meningitis, Encephalitis, Head injury, Heatstroke, Sunstroke

?Before, during, or after menstruation

?Hunger

?Medications (Many drugs designed to relieve pain can actually cause headache when the drug is stopped after a period of prolonged use).

?Alcohol and caffeine withdrawal

?Not getting enough sleep

?Reading for long periods of time or eyestrain

?Doing repetitive work

?Staying in one position for a long time, such as working at a computer.

The same causes of head ache have been explained in Ayurveda also. These causes vitiate all the three doshas (vata, pitta and kapha). The vitiated doshas cause tension, migraine, sinus and other head aches.

Few common types of headache are Tension headache, Migraine headache and sinus headache.

Tension headache:

Tightening of muscles of face and neck cause tension headache. It is characterized by a dull ache in forehead or back of head and pain in neck and shoulders which travels to head. Causes like less sleep, stress, reading for a long time, and working in front of a computer for long hours can precipitate tension headache.

Migraine Headache:

Migraine headache is caused when blood vessels of head get too much dilated or constricted. Females are more prone to this type of headache than males and migraine tends to run in families.

A person suffering from migraine headache feels like vomiting becomes too sensitive to light, sound and other activities. Few people experience spots or flashes before headache.

Few facts like menstruation in females, caffeine, alcohol, aged cheese, cured meat, stress, change in sleeping pattern, strenuous exercise trigger migraine headache.

Sinus Headaches

A sinus headache surfaces when fluids in the nose are not able to drain well and pressure builds up in sinuses. A cold, dust allergies, dirty or polluted water air travel may cause this type of headache. Sinus headache causes pain in forehead, cheek bones, nose and stuffy nose. The headache increases when face is bent or touched. The symptoms are worse in the morning.

Although headaches are very common, It is recommended to consult a doctor about your headache.

Go to an emergency departmentif any of the following symptoms occur:

?Pain that develops very rapidly

?A change in concentration or ability to think

?A change in level of alertness

?Altered speech

?Weakness, numbness, or difficulty in walking

?Changes in vision

?Headache with a stiff neck or neck pain, or if light hurts your eyes

?If you feel that this the worst headache of your life

?Headache with dizziness, or a feeling that you are falling to one side

?Headache from an injury or blow to the head

?Headache with fever.

Home remedies for tension headache.

For tension headaches massage few drops of peppermint oil or eucalyptus oil on temples.

Massage the scalp with slightly warmed sesame oil. This relieves tension headache and induces sleep.

Regular exercise, yoga and meditation reduce the stress levels and keep the tension headache at bay.

Persons of vata type can use hot water bags on aching parts and a hot shower will be of good help.

Persons of pitta type can use cold or ice packs on aching parts and wrap a wet cold cloth around neck.

Home remedies for migraine headache.

Make a note of facts which trigger the headache and also the foods. Try to avoid these.

Avoid spicy foods, coffee, tea, alcohol, onion and garlic. Avoid citrus fruits except lemon.

Try muscle relaxation exercises. Progressive muscle relaxation, meditation and yoga are definitely going to help. Relax at least for half an hour everyday by doing your favourite activities like listening to music, gardening, taking hot water bath etc.

Stick to you a regular sleep pattern and get enough sleep but don't oversleep. Avoid sleeping during the afternoon.

Rest in a dark, quiet room when you feel a headache coming on. Place an ice pack wrapped in a cloth on the back of your neck and apply gentle pressure to painful areas on your scalp.

Home remedies for sinus headache.

?Breathe in warm, moist air.

?Moist the nasal passages with the help of saline nasal spray. A saline spray can be used up to six times per day.

?Do not smoke. If you smoke, quit.

?Avoid second-hand smoke and polluted air.

?Avoid exposure to anything that triggers allergy or sinus symptoms.

?Wash your hands frequently to avoid colds.

?Seek treatment for a persistent cold before sinusitis sets in.

?Avoid alcoholic drinks. Alcohol can cause swelling of nasal and sinus tissues.

Mesotherapy Injections

Mesotherapy Injections are usually given with tiny small-bore needles. The injections go to a depth of a few millimeters below the skin, to a layer of fat and connective tissue called the mesoderm. Patients describe Mesotherapy Injections as being relatively painless when compared to conventional injections. The amount of pain felt depends on each patient?s pain threshold and whether a local anesthetic is used during the procedure. Injections are said to feel like a brief burning sensation, an ant bite, or a bee sting. The number of injections given depends on the duration of treatment, which in turn depends on the area being treated and the extent of the condition. Most mesotherapy treatments range from four to ten sessions. Each session is typically one to two weeks apart.

Compounds that are injected depend on what condition is being treated. Very often, mesotherapists add the active compound to treat a particular condition to a base containing local anesthetic and a compound that causes blood vessels in the area to dilate. This helps reduce pain, and improves local circulation in the area to allow the active compound to reach its target cells. The actual compounds themselves may be fat reduction agents, vitamins, muscle relaxants, enzymes, hormones, or some other substance. While the US Food and Drug Administration has approved most of these compounds for use on humans, they are not approved for use in mesotherapy because mesotherapy itself is not considered a formal part of allopathic medicine in the US.

Like any other injections, Mesotherapy Injections carry the risk of side effects including infection, local allergic reactions, bruising, swelling and pain. Infections are usually caused by non-sterile injection practices, and are more common among patients of unlicensed mesotherapy practitioners.

Mesotherapy provides detailed information about mesotherapy, cost of mesotherapy, mesotherapy before and after, mesotherapy injections and more. Mesotherapy is the sister site of Mesothelioma Doctors Info.

Hormones and Your Skin

When skin care products fail to clear up your acne problems, it is an indication that they could be a result of hormonal imbalances. Below are some general guidelines on how to tell if your complexion problems are hormonal:

* You experience acne breakouts the week before your period, mostly on the jaw line, chin and neck.
* Irregular periods and/or excess hair on the face or body in addition to acne could signal a hormonal disorder. Consult your doctor.
* Your skin tends to feel much more sensitive during the fourth week of your monthly menstrual cycle.

Keeping skin acne free requires more than just diligent skincare. It is also a matter of timing your skin care according to your monthly hormonal surges. That is because monthly hormone fluctuations stimulate the skin?s sebaceous glands to secrete oil. The more oil our skin produces, the higher the possibility that acne problems will arise.

THE HORMONAL CYCLE 101

Your cycle begins on the first day of your period and can last anywhere from 21 to 40 days. In the first week after your period, your oestrogen level increases, helping to keep skin clear (oestrogen is the hormone that helps keep oil glands in check). When ovulation occurs around day 14 of your cycle, progesterone (another hormone) starts to surge and your potential for acne blemishes increases and peaks, just days before your period. That is when you will experience oily skin and acne breakouts.

WEEK-BY-WEEK SKINCARE

Week 1 (The cycle begins on the first day of your period)

WHAT?S HAPPENING: Hormone levels are at their monthly low. Skin may appear dull or it could be recovering from premenstrual acne flare-ups.

WHAT YOUR SKIN NEEDS: Regular and gentle care.

* Use mild cleansers that contain soothing ingredients like Aloe, Chamomile or Green Tea. While washing, massage your face gently with the pads of your fingertips.

* Concealers are your skin?s best friends this week. Choose an oil-free one that contains Salicylic Acid or Sulphur, which can help to unclog pores.

* Treat skin to a moisturizing or exfoliating mask. Left on for 10 minutes, an exfoliating mask will remove any flakiness on the skin and have skin lightening effects on a dull complexion. The moisturizing element will provide much needed extra skin hydration.

* Treat lingering acne scars and blemishes with acne treatment products that contain Salicylic Acid or Tea Tree Oil.

TIP: Do not skimp on your moisturizer. Hydrate your skin regularly and choose moisturizers that are oil-free or comedogenic.

Week 2 (The week after your period)

WHAT?S HAPPENING: As oestrogen levels are rising, your skin condition is at its peak with a clear and balanced complexion.

WHAT YOUR SKIN NEEDS: Maintenance and prevention

* For most skin types, ranging from normal to combination skin, this is a good time for professional pampering. Since your skin is not overly sensitive, you can get a simple gentle facial done.

* If you have very sensitive skin, do not go for facials as this may have the effects of over-stimulating your sensitive skin and cause further problems. Opt for a simple regimen that consists of a mild cleanser, sunscreen, moisturizer and a good acne treatment product (if you still experience acne breakouts during this week).

* Keep using the same mild cleansers you used in Week 1 and make sure that you keep your skin clean and fresh by washing your face twice a day. There is no need to carry out excessive cleansing as this may strip your skin of its natural sebum.

* Exfoliate your skin with exfoliating products that contain skin sloughers like Glycolic acid, Lactic acid or Salicylic Acid. However, if your skin is extremely sensitive, you should avoid using such exfoliating products as they may further sensitize your skin.

TIP: Always remove make-up before going to bed. Sleeping with your make-up on can cause pores to clog and trigger acne breakouts.

Week 3 (Ovulation)

WHAT?S HAPPENING: While your oestrogen levels peak, progesterone surges. These hormonal fluctuations cause oily skin flare-ups and acne breakouts.

WHAT YOUR SKIN NEEDS: Acne blemishes battling treatments and moderate exfoliation.

* Keep skin clean and fresh by washing your face twice a day with a mild cleanser, in the morning and in the night. Use an alcohol-free toner to deep-cleanse your pores.

* During other times, cleanse skin by using water only. Water is the natural healer for skin and can calm your skin without stripping your skin of its natural sebum.

* During Week 3 and Week 4, bring oil-blotting pads with you to mop up excess oil for a matte complexion.

* Pamper your skin with products that prevent acne scars and blemishes. They usually contain Salicylic Acid, Glycolic Acid, Benzoyl Peroxide, Chlorhexidine and Tea Tree Oil.

* Use an acne clearing mask this week. For normal skin users, the mask can be used 2 times a week, while sensitive skin users should only use it once a week.

TIP: Resist the urge to squeeze your pimples. Apply a warm washcloth to the pimples for several minutes and follow with an antibacterial Benzoyl-Peroxide or Chlorhexidine product.

Week 4 (The week before your period)

WHAT?S HAPPENING: Your oestrogen plummets while progesterone continues to surge. Your skin is at its oiliest, and painful pimples, bumps or acne cysts flare up.

WHAT YOUR SKIN NEEDS: Tender, loving care.

* Keep skin clean and fresh by washing your face twice a day with a mild cleanser, in the morning and in the night.

* During other times, cleanse skin by using water only. Water is the natural healer for skin and can calm your skin without stripping your skin of its natural sebum.

* Treat your acne scars and blemishes with spot treatments, in the morning and in the night.

* Declog your pores by using an acne mask at least twice this week. Sensitive skin users should only use an acne mask once a week.

* Look for foundations that contain Salicylic Acid, which will help clear pores. Also make sure that your make-up is labeled non-comedogenic so that it would not clog pores.

* Stay away from any sort of skin trauma this week. No waxing, laser treatments, microdermabrasion and facials. You are bound to experience extra discomfort on the acne affected areas if you do.

TIP: If the acne affected areas show no improvement and seem to be getting worse, you should immediately consult a dermatologist who can prescribe topical acne medication or oral antibiotics.

Oily Skin Care Can Treat Acneprone Shiny Oily Skin

Oily skin is not only shiny, dull-colored, and coarse, it is also acne-prone, which means that a host of more serious problems can develop: blackheads, whiteheads, enlarged pores, redness, and potential scarring. If your skin is oily or you have combination skin, take control with oily skin care before the trouble escalates. We all want to have beautiful, clear skin.

Causes of Oily Skin

The cause of oily skin is not fully understood, but it is very likely that hereditary and lifestyle choices play a part. As well, those pesky hormone imbalances that occur most often in the teen years and also at menopause are a big part of the problem. Since the skin is the largest organ on the body, it also reflects the state of our general physical and emotional health, and problems on either front will have a negative impact on the skin. Pregnancy and birth control pills, which alter hormonal activity, also affect the oiliness of the skin, as will diet, humidity, and the use of cosmetics.

Skin oil is produced by the sebaceous glands, which are more active in the nose area than anywhere else on the face, and the nose area is also the site of larger pores. If you have combination skin, it means the skin on your face is generally dry or normal, but excessively oily around the nose, often extending down to the chin and up into the forehead. Sebaceous glands are also more active on the chest, back, and upper arms than on other parts of the body. The amount of oil generated by these glands is out of your control and oily skin care simply means coping with the amount of oil produced and the problems it can cause.

Oil is important for moisturizing the skin, and you can take comfort from knowing that oily skin delays wrinkling, age spots, and fine lines, and sebaceous glands become less active as we age. In the meantime, the problem remains that oil clogs the pores of the skin, and the effects are, naturally, the production of blackheads and pimples, as well as enlarged pores and redness. Oily skin care treatments involve taking steps to keep pores from getting clogged and blemishes from appearing.

The Best Diet for Oily Skin

The treatment for oily skin should start internally. This means, take care of your physical and mental health and your skin will benefit. Eat balanced meals, and make sure that you receive the necessary nutrition for good health each day. Forget the starvation diets and the food fads. Normal weight and good health are served best by diets that include daily servings of all the food groups. The B vitamins are especially important for skin health and are found in wheat germ, egg yolk, Brewer?s yeast, organ meats, nuts and beans. A lack of vitamin B2 will actually cause oily skin. Reduce the amount of fat, oil, and sugar in your diet, and you will be repaid with fewer skin problems, but that is because your general health will improve. Sebaceous glands operate independent of diet.

Because food grown in nutrient-depleted soil can be depleted of essential vitamins and minerals, it is important to add a supplement or two to your diet. Start with a multivitamin suitable for your age and sex, and then add some extra vitamin A (so that you are consuming about 10,000 IU daily) and the vitamin B complex. Primrose oil (500 milligrams) and flaxseed oil (1,000 milligrams) are both very beneficial for the skin.

Drink lots of water to help flush toxins out of your body with the help of your kidneys and liver rather than leaving it to your skin to bring toxins to the surface and eliminate them through perspiration. Lots of water is generally defined as eight glasses a day, and this amount also serves to hydrate your skin properly.

Since stress aggravates skin problems, it is wise to reduce your stress level through meditation or relaxation techniques.

Rosacea, a chronic skin disorder that looks a great deal like acne, will improve if you follow these same health recommendations, and an anti aging diet includes all these elements as well.

Tips for Caring for Oily Skin

Keep oily skin very clean so that pores do not become clogged and cause breakouts. On the other hand, you can have too much of a good thing here, and skin must not be treated too harshly nor washed too often. Chose a mild cleanser that promises to clean without drying, and wash with lukewarm, not hot, water. You can try a mild medicated soap or an antibacterial cleansing lotion. If your skin become dry and taut, it means the outer layer has shrunk and the oil will not be able to flow freely and more pores will clog. Aim for washing your face two or three times a day, and, between cleansings, wipe away excess oil with either an antibacterial astringent or one containing acetone, which dissolves oil. Using a clay or mud mask once a week is another good way to cleanse your skin and combat the oil production. Be gentle. A facial sauna with lemongrass, licorice root, and rosebuds is good for oily skin, but use caution if you have acne. Saunas, like high humidity, can intensify breakouts.

Moisturizers for oily skin might contain antiseptic or simply be oil-free.

Noncomedogenic moisturizers do not clog pores, and nonacnegenic moisturizers do not irritate pores. Look for the chemical benzyl peroxide, which helps reduce the amount of oil your glands produce and is a useful ingredient in lotions and creams designed for oily skin. Make sure all makeup as well as all moisturizers, cleansing lotions, astringents, and sunscreens are chosen with oily skin in mind, and are water-based rather than oil-based products.

Effective treatment for oily skin involves cleansing, moisturizing, and protecting your skin with products created to provide oily skin solutions. Although there are no natural cures for oily skin, you can certainly manage the problem and keep it from worsening. The Internet is the perfect place to search and find information about products and diet supplements needed to provide the best oily skin care possible. The Internet offers the opportunity to shop, compare costs, and order whatever you need online from the privacy of your home. Most online merchants offer discount pricing to attract customers which helps save you money. You don?t have to put up with oily skin problems; relief is just a few clicks away.

Acne And Diet: You Are What You Eat

When it comes to things that directly impact the quality of your skin and the absence of skin blemishes, acne and diet go hand in hand.

Although there are many myths involving eating certain foods that cause break outs or make already existing acne problems worse, studies have failed to prove than any one food (including favorites like chocolate or deep fried foods) have the potential to spur on pimples, blackheads, or blemishes.

That being said, ensuring you consume a proper diet that includes all necessary vitamins and nutrients recommended for individuals on a daily basis, your skin will definitely see a benefit, as will your overall health.

Just like your health, acne and diet are directly related and can have the potential to turn your unhealthy, blemished skin into glowing, radiant skin.

To ensure your skin stays looking its best, start with your daily nutrition.

What do you eat for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and everything in between your usual meals?

The best way to determine if you are indeed eating a healthy diet is to write down your food intake.

Once your food choices are in writing, you may be able to see the direct impact of acne and diet.

If necessary, you may need to change you diet to include better choices like fresh fruits and vegetables, lean meats, and whole grains.

A well balanced diet is important for not only your external health, but also internal health.

Furthermore, a simple change of diet can greatly enrich your life, including a gain in energy and a better clarity of the mind.

If you are having problems eating a healthy diet, consider seeing help from a doctor or a nutritionist.

These professionals will be able to ensure you are consuming the daily recommended amounts of vitamins and minerals to keep your body working in top condition.

Once you begin your new diet, you will notice immediate changes in your outward appearance and energy levels, including the quality of your skin.

Proper nutrition is the key to maintaining pristine, lovely, and glowing skin that is free from blemishes, pimples, or blackheads.

One life intersecting with another is a momentous occasion. In the context of the role of Caregiver and Recipient, the intersection appears to be about the Caregiver providing something for the Recipient. In reality, it?s a two-way street.

How many times has your life connected with another?s and then taken a different turn? Most often, this goes unnoticed because the influences are measured in minute subtleties. In truth, it happens all the time.

If you?ve ever spent any time on the ocean, odds are you?ve gotten the sense that there is nothing on this earth that is not affected by everything else. A gust of wind that happened over another continent years ago put a number of molecules of water in motion that went on to affect each molecule around them. The energy spread, influencing everything in its path until whatever is left of that initiating energy ends up lapping at your feet. In that journey, the connection is obvious. Energy moves molecule moves molecule, over time and place, until you're touched.

Why would it be less so with the human experience?

Conceptually, we?re not much more than elaborate molecules bumping into each other and in a constant state of changing trajectories as a result. We just happen to measure our directional changes as influences on our experience of life, and work under the assumption that we have the free-will to choose a significant part of our experience. Regardless, essentially, like with everything else, our main function has to do with responding to stimuli.

Sometimes, the influence of a particular intersection with another human being spins one or the other or both into a new direction that?s quite obvious. Any tragic accident is a clear reflection of this. Those notable occasions hint at how that is the way things are ? there is nothing that happens to us that does not shift our direction and the direction of those around us. Accidents are the same concept, only writ large.

No matter where you are in space and time, your whole life has conspired to get you to that point. Taking it one step further, the complete history of the Earth and mankind comes together, in you, in each moment, and the future of everything steps off from there as well.

It is as if each moment is a vacuum which you are called upon to fill. Had anything been different, you can sense you would have ended up filling another space that called out for you. The same is no less true with the other person or people with whom your life intersects.

Balance, it appears, though always sought, is only really attained in fleeting moments. If you ask an airline pilot how often is the plane she?s flying off-course, she?s likely to reply 99 percent of the time. Every moment in life is a matter of course correction. This is true from the cell to the organism to the planet to the Universe itself.

Wherever there is a vacuum, something gets pulled in to fill the void and tweak the balance a tad one way or the other. In one sense, time itself is composed of innumerable voids awaiting fulfillment. People come together in moments of time and fill those voids. In the process they are collaborators in forming a new future with a slightly different balance.

To take yourself out of that equation and work under the assumption that it is only the others? needs that calls you to them in the healing process is to deny that you are a part of the Great Mystery. In every moment, there is something there for you, as well.

The sum total of your life has led you to this place in time, where or whenever it might be. It has given you a background, skills, practice, understandings, and relationships to draw from. It has provided you an opportunity to use any number of them, at your choice. The sum total of the other?s life has led him or her to this place in time in the same way. Therefore, the sum total of both your lives has collectively put you together, and is now asking of each of you to do something with that moment; to both be affected by it AND affect the moments to come.

In essence, you are (like everything and everybody else is) an element of existence that not only seeks balance for itself, but is an AGENT of balance for everything else. In the Grand Scheme of things nothing that happens in any moment of time or place is about anything but the seeking of balance.

It is not about constantly having to know why yours and someone else?s lives have been put together. It?s enough to assume that wherever you are you were led there by a history so unique that it sought that moment to express itself as an agent of balance. The logical next step is to work on the assumption that the same is true with any one with whom you are in connection.

From that point on, all that remains is the exploration.

Using Ayurvedic Principles In Your Daily Diet

The ancient healing tradition of Ayurveda believes that what you eat is equally important as what your body does with the food you just ate. This combination and not just the food alone, is what really shapes your health and well-being.

In Ayurveda, each body is unique with unique dietary needs. Your Ayurvedic practitioner will check your body constitution, age, the environment you live in, what is currently causing you to have an imbalance between mind and body. However, there are key Ayurvedic diet principles that are universal and the following are simple ways to integrate the Ayurvedic way of eating into your usual eating habits.

First, it is suggested that you add the freshly squeezed juice of half a lemon to a hot cup of water or add lemon zest to your herbal tea. This should be drunk first thing in the morning before breakfast. This warm lemon juice is good for all body types because it aids intestinal cleansing by slowing the growth of disease-causing bacteria in the digestive system. It enhances digestion and helps reduce bloating while stimulating the digestive juices. This juice also helps in elimination so your tummy is naturally flushed clear in the morning. Lemon juice is also an antioxidant that helps fight other disease-causing free radicals in the body while keeping your skin clear.

Second, refrain from drinking cold beverages. According to Ayurveda, having iced or cold drinks especially with or right after a meal will hamper effective digestion. It's like emptying cold water over hot coals-this is what you do to your digestive system when you drink iced beverages with any meal. Instead, choose lukewarm water or fennel tea to help digestion and prevent bloating. You can also drink cumin tea or ginger-mint tea. Warm spiced tea can stimulate digestion and help your body absorb nutrients from the food you are eating. They also flush toxins from your system.

Third, eat slowly and mindfully. Try to present food beautifully. Well-presented food can engage all your other senses that will later aid in digestion. Eating should be a delightful and creative experience, with aromas, colors and flavors blending and coming together for your full enjoyment. Your dining area should be clean and free of clutter. Nothing else but food should be on the table during mealtimes. Try to eat in a peaceful and happy atmosphere as much as you can.

Fourth, eat lunch properly. Most of us skip lunch or just grab a bite because we're too busy. In Ayurveda, lunch is THE most important meal of the day. Mid-day is the time when digestion is at its natural peak for your body to complete the digestion process fully. A heavy meal at night is discouraged because eating a heavy dinner results in a lot of undigested food that gets clogged in your system. It's harder to fall asleep after a heavy dinner. Weight gain can also be inevitable. After eating a full lunch, it is suggested that you take time to relax and sit quietly. This gives your body a chance to digest well before you resume your daily activities.

Fifth, drink lots of water. The Ayurvedic beverage of choice is pure, lukewarm water. Water is important for digestion and absorption of nutrients. It helps flush out toxins and prevents bloating and constipation. Water also helps carry nutrients to all the cells and tissues and breaks down fat. Clear and fresh vegetable broths are also good for detoxification.

The Right Apparel For Your Aerobics Workouts

Aerobics Wear, Apparel, Shoes

If you enjoy workout out and do aerobics on a regular basis, did you know that the wrong aerobics wear can negatively affect your workout? Yes, that is true. Aerobic wear is an essential part of the aerobic workout, and when the wrong attire is worn, you begin to feel discomfort, where the end result is often irritation which is then wrongly directed at the aerobics activity, and it is a vicious circle.

So what do you look for? When you are shopping for the right clothing to wear for your aerobics workout, it is crucial to get clothing that fits loosely and will allow for free airflow. Do not choose tight-fitting garments, regardless of what you perceive the current fashion craze to be. With tight-fitting aerobics wear, your range of motion and movements will be restricted, which will render the exercise much less effective than it could be.

Do you need special clothes? Not at all. Many people prefer to just put on a sweat suit and go to the exercise class. This type of aerobics wear is usually lightweight, loose fitting, and made from breathable material. But if you feel that you need to look a bit more stylish as you leave the house for your aerobics class, you have a wide variety of aerobic wear to add some flair to your workout.

The appropriate kind of active wear in available in many different styles and sizes, and also many designs in almost every color of the rainbow. I suggest visiting a major sporting good store which will allow you to browse their aisles and racks of aerobic wear that might catch your eye. You can usually choose from many things to expand your workout wardrobe, including shorts, shirts, sweatpants, tanktops, and shoes. Just remember that you want these to fit comfortably, loosely, and made from material that permits free airflow.

If you are a very common size, you could shop on the Internet, since that will allow you to view many options from many vendors. Sometimes these online vendors will have buy 1 get 1 free specials, and perhaps free shipping as well. If you wish to conserve gas and shop from home online, that is not a bad decision.

Articles can be bought separately as individual garments, or can also be available as a combination in two or three piece outfits. Purchasing pieces individually allows you to mix and match your most complimentary colors, but if you are lacking in fashion coordination skills, then perhaps a combo purchase is best for you. Aerobic wear sets usually have tops and matched bottoms, and even sometimes a matching lightweight jacket. If you also get some articles in neutral colors, this will periodically allow you to add new items of aerobic wear as older articles wear out or get torn.

Don't forget about the shoes, which are critically important. Good and proper aerobic shoes should not be tight but should fit comfortably. The type of shoe you get is determined by the type of exercises that comprise your regular routine. You may think that the price of aerobic shoes is a bit steep, but consider the price of suffering from sore feet if you wear the wrong type of shoes.

What you decide to wear when you are exercising does not have to be dull or drab, but there is also no reason that it needs to cost a small fortune. In just one afternoon of informed shopping, you should be able to put together a very stylish and yet economical aerobic wear wardrobe that will be very adequate for your goal to be fit, trim, and healthy.

Colon Hydrotherapy May Not Be A Complete Answer

The popularity of colon hydrotherapy is eminently understandable, in a world where we become increasingly aware of the dangers of many aspects of our modern lifestyle. With the easy availability of information through such mediums as television, video, and the local library, and more recently the Internet, most of us strive to do the best we can in maintaining our health, and grasp eagerly any chance we can find to improve our wellbeing. Despite a sometimes less than favorable response from the mainstream medical community, colonic hydrotherapy is a popular treatment, but should we ask ourselves whether it is one that addresses a symptom rather than attacking a cause?

As our fast paced world moves, almost in the blink of an eye, from books to computers, from video to DVD, and from regular doctor?s visits to online consultations with the Internet, we seem to be running out of time to take care of the things that really matter. While the health of our bodies, from our heart to our colon, remains important to so many of us, we are so busy with both working and playing hard that the time to eat properly and exercise regularly seems to evade us. We take a pill as soon as a headache strikes because we don?t have time to relax it away and hope that with hydrotherapy, colon operations that have gone awry will return to business as usual.

While medical tools such as the headache pill and colon hydrotherapy undoubtedly have a place in our busy lives, we should perhaps not view them as the panacea to our ills that we have arguably come to see them as. Colonic hydrotherapy reportedly yields enormous health benefits, improving the condition of skin and hair, and resulting in increased energy levels, but these are states of wellbeing experienced by most people with a healthy functioning colon. While a hydrotherapy treatment for the colonic area might be a useful condiment at the meal of health, when it becomes the staple of our diet, we must ask ourselves whether we, literally, are eating quite right.

While the effectiveness of colon hydrotherapy remains a matter of debate, the comfort and health earned by achieving and maintaining a healthy bowel is not. There is nothing wrong in reaching out for medical ? whether it is mainstream or alternative ? help when it is required, but over-dependence on such help should suggest that our bodies are not working as they should. Colon hydrotherapy might be a great way to add those final touches to your internal spring clean, but for the daily dusting of your colon and intestines, eating right, exercising and drinking plenty of water are your best ways to long-term health.

Colon hydrotherapy may be great treatment, but make sure you pay attention to other factors to ensure good colon health as well.

Natural Liver Support Cleansing Products

The liver is involved in thousands of biochemical mechanisms making it second only to the brain in importance and complexity. Natural health practitioners are also acutely aware of the detrimental effects on the liver of modern living, with its chemicals, excessive fat intake, pesticides, hormones, and stress. This suggests that we as a culture are in need of liver support. You should consider liver support supplementation if you:

? Have a history of a Fatty Liver

? Consume Alcohol

? Consume Tobacco Products

? Have been taking Medications/Drugs

? Are exposed to Environmental Toxins or Chemicals or Second Hand Smoke

? Have a history of Liver or Gall Bladder Problems

Dandelion

Dandelion root enhances bile flow, thus improving conditions such as liver congestion, bile duct inflammation, hepatitis, gallstones, and jaundice. Dandelion increases bile flow by affecting the liver directly to cause an increase in bile production and flow to the gallbladder, and exerting a direct effect on the gallbladder by causing a contraction and release of stored bile. Dandelion's hepatic tonic effect may be attributable to the high choline content.

Milk Thistle

Milk thistle (Silybum marianum) has been used since Greco-Roman times as an herbal remedy for a variety of ailments, particularly liver problems. Several scientific studies suggest that active substances in milk thistle (particularly silymarin) protect the liver from damage caused by viruses, toxins, alcohol, and certain drugs such as acetaminophen (a common over the counter medication used for headaches and pain; acetaminophen, also called paracetamol, can cause liver damage if taken in large quantities or by people who drink alcohol regularly.)

Many professional herbalists recommend milk thistle extract for the prevention and/or treatment of various liver disorders including viral hepatitis, fatty liver associated with long term alcohol use, and liver damage from drugs and industrial toxins such as carbon tetrachloride.

Mesotherapy Side Effects

As with any other form of treatment, Mesotherapy can have Side Effects. Some mild and transient Side Effects that may occur after a Mesotherapy session include swelling, bruising and pain or itching at the injection site. These typically subside in a few hours to a few days. One compound that causes such swelling when injected is the compound lecithin. Some mesotherapists recommend the homeopathic drug arnica to reduce swelling. However, its action has not been scientifically proven. More often, patients are advised to wear loose-fitting clothing, and to avoid exercise for up to two or three days following a Mesotherapy treatment.

Other Side Effects at the injection site can include scarring, pigmentation, or ulcer formation. Sometimes, patients may feel a small lump under the injection site, which reduces or disappears after a few weeks. When non-sterile injection techniques are used, infections may occur, some of which may be potentially serious. Most of these infections have been reported from some South American countries, where unlicensed individuals administer Mesotherapy treatments. It is therefore preferable to receive Mesotherapy from a board-certified physician who practices good infection control.

Mesotherapy patients may have local or systemic allergic reactions to any of the compounds that are injected. These can range from mild to potentially life-threatening. Trained clinicians know how to recognize such reactions, and can promptly administer appropriate treatment. This is another reason it is advisable to go to reputable Mesotherapy clinics. There are occasional reports of unusual skin conditions, including psoriasis, in the scientific literature. Some of these are attributed to the mixing of compounds that may interact with each other.

It is unclear what exactly happens to the fat that is dissolved in Mesotherapy treatments for cellulite and localized fat removal. While Mesotherapy advocates claim this fat is broken down and excreted, such claims remain scientifically unproven.

Olive Leaf Extract Your Body Will Thank You!

Natural ingredients, such as olive leaf extract, are very beneficial to the human body. Every day scientists and researchers are discovering reasons why you should choose to use olive leaf extract daily as a preventative measure, and as an active measure to cure illness. Olive leaf extract can be used to prevent illness and help aid in illness you may already have been diagnosed with.

Why Should I Use the Olive Leaf Extract?

The benefits of the olive leaf and its extract have been studied for many years. In fact, the ancient Egyptians used extract in their mummification and preservation rituals. The olive tree, its branch, leaf, and extract are often referenced throughout the Bible.

Extract Is:

Did you know the first substance to be extracted from the olive is called oleuropein? It was discovered in 1843. Oleuropein is described as a bitter substance found throughout the entire olive tree. This extract is a part of the olive tree that makes it durable. This olive leaf extract is also extremely resistant to bacteria and insects. Olive leaf extract went through extensive laboratory experimentation and was found to be a safe, non-toxic substance. Olive leaf extract was immediately found to be helpful in fighting viruses. Different pharmaceutical companies and scientists used a variety of compounds and measurement compositions of the olive leaf extract in tests. The extract is a ?true anti-viral substance because it appears to selectively block an entire virus-specific system in the infected hose. It thus appears to offer healing affects not addressed by pharmaceutical antibiotics? (James R. Priviteria, M.D.).

Peritoneal Mesothelioma Treatment

Peritoneal Mesothelioma is a dreadful and life-threatening cancer, caused by continuous and long exposure to asbestos. It is a tumor that affects the lining of the abdomen that protects the contents of the abdomen and provides a lubricating fluid to enable the organs to move and work properly.

Presently there are few treatments, but no specific known cure, for peritoneal mesothelioma. However, the options for relief and treatment of people with peritoneal mesothelioma have improved tremendously with ongoing research, especially if the cancer is diagnosed early and treated vigorously. Specific types of treatment include traditional chemotherapy: This traditional approach uses special anti-cancer (cytotoxic) medicines and chemicals to try to kill the malignant cells. Often, it is offered as an additional therapy alongside radical surgery or in combination with radiation therapy or immunotherapy, particularly when the cancer has spread beyond an operable area. The chemotherapeutic agents can be administered by mouth in tablet form or intravenously via needle into a vein or a muscle.

Another treatment option is surgery. Surgery for peritoneal mesothelioma entails cutting out part of the affected lining and tissue from the abdomen in order to remove the tumor. Whether or not surgery is performed and how much tissue is removed depends on how far the cancer has spread and how big the tumor is. Sometimes it becomes necessary to remove a lung or part of the diaphragm in order for surgery to succeed in removal of the tumor.

Yet another option is radiation therapy. In radiation therapy, high energy x-rays are used to shrink tumors and kill off cancerous cells in the affected area. There are two ways to administer radiation therapy, either externally where a machine is placed outside the body and emits radiation through the body, or through plastic tubes that enable radiation to be placed directly to the affected area.

There are also clinical trials and various experimental treatments, like gene therapy and immunotherapy, and antiangiogenesis drugs for the treatment of this life-threatening cancer. Research is being done vigorously, and doctors are continuously striving to achieve success in curing this disease so as to ensure that no one else falls prey to this dangerous cancer.

Learn How to Use Aromatherapy

The use of various essential oils made of liquid plant material and other aromatic substances for healing of the mind and body is called aromatherapy. The word was coined first by French perfumer Ren? Maurice Gattefoss?.He dedicated his life to researching different healing properties of essential oils. The use of aromatherapy is believed to bring pleasure, beauty and healing in the lives of those who use it.

The different materials used in Aromatherapy are:

?Essential oils: These are fragrant oils extracted from plants by distillation. They can also be fragrant oils extracted from plant material by any solvent extraction.

?Absolutes: These are fragrant oils which are extracted from flowers or delicate plant tissues through solvent or supercritical fluid extraction.

?Phytoncides: They are antimicrobial volatile organic compounds extracted from plants. Plants like onion, garlic, oak and pine trees etc give off phytoncides thus preventing them from rotting or being eaten by insects and animals. Phytoncides can reduce stress.

?Hydrosols: They are the water that remains after producing an essential oil via steam or water distillation e.g. Rose water. The plant matter used in essential oil distillation imparts a wonderful aroma to the water. Hydrosol offers therapeutic benefit.

?Infusions: Aqueous extracts of various plant materials.

?Carrier oils: They are cold-pressed vegetable oils derived from the fatty portions of the plant and are used to dilute essential oils for use on the skin.e.g.almond oil.

Aromatherapy for health benefits:

Aromatherapy is used for treatment and prevention of various health problems but is very essential that the right dosage and duration of application is given to the patient. In France, where it originated, some essential oils are administered by a physician as they are regulated as prescription drugs. Lavender is known to be the best known essential oil for aromatherapy, recommended by practitioners for treating wounds, to enhance memory, and helps in combating anxiety and insomnia. A lavender bath can help relax tired muscles and a tired mind. It's a wonderful way to relax before bedtime. Other popular scents are eucalyptus, bergamot, rose and jasmine.

Aromatherapy is now becoming one of the fastest growing fields in alternative and holistic medicine. They are even used in clinics and hospitals for relieving pain, for labor pain, for relieving pain caused during chemotherapy, and for the rehabilitation of cardiac patients.

Areas used:

Though aromatherapy is used in various other fields but it may be best known in these areas:

?Skin Care or Aesthetic ? Aromatherapy is best known for the effects these essential oils have on skin and hair care.

?Emotional or Psycho ? The aromas are known to have positive effects on our emotions, moods and feelings. This therapy is known as aromachology.

?Holistic or Spiritual Healing ? Brings spiritual healing with the body, mind and soul.

?Medical or Healing ? It can bring healing and helps in enhancing and maintaining good health.

Always remember that almost no essential oil should be applied neat or undiluted directly to your skin. Use 15 drops of the essential oil or synergistic blend to one ounce of carrier oil for best results. You can also use these oils in your laundry and also for dish washing. For e.g. use lemon Oil to the washer to remove greasy/oily smells.

By learning how to use these oils in your daily life you can enjoy leading a happy and healthy life. The use of Aromatherapy and or Essential Oils extends to Skin Care, Hair Care and other Personal Care Products, Health Care, Natural Healing, Candles, Incense, Potpourri and other Home Enhancements such as Air Fresheners.

Magnetic Therapy Backed by Scientific Evidence Ignored by Conventional Medicine

The recent January 2006 issue of the British Medical Journal suggested patients be advised that magnetic therapy has no proved benefits. They argued that only blinded randomized controlled trials can prove medical benefit, and that it is difficult to study magnets in a blinded fashion.

The editorial obscures an important truth about research and real world healing. If we were to apply this standard to all medicines, we'd also have to point out that many common surgeries and medical procedures also have no proved health benefit. Few of them have been studied in randomized controlled trials, and they cost at least as much as magnetic healing does. But no one complains about that. This exemplifies the double standard the medical establishment applies to alternative medicine.

A randomized controlled trial of arthroscopic knee surgery for osteoarthritis found it to be no more efficacious than placebo, yet this surgery is performed on more than 600,000 people per year. This study appeared in the New England Journal of Medicine in July 2002.

The British Medical Journal editorial is at odds with the results of more than 300 favorable studies of powerful magnetic therapy for diseases including arthritis, fibromyalgia, migraine, multiple sclerosis, pain, sinusitis, and insomnia. Abstracts of these studies are available for free at The FeelGood Store. What?s more, an expert review of 18 high quality randomized controlled trials of magnetic therapy for pain concluded that the weight of the evidence favors magnetic pain relief. This review was published in June 2005 in the Journal of Alternative & Complementary Medicine.

The BMJ editor forgets that consumers are shrewd. If magnets don't work, they'll demand a refund or spread negative word of mouth. Plus, recent research continues to explain close relationship between nerves, the brain, and the immune system. The same neurovasculoimmune mechanisms that make acupuncture work explain how magnets heal the body. Nerves work via electricity and magnetic fields affect the flow of electricity.

The FeelGood Store has been providing customers with superior pain relief, beauty, fitness, and wellness products via mail order and the internet since 1993. They sell a variety of magnetic products including bracelets and joint supports.

The Healing Power Of Touch and Shiatsu

Here is some information about the art of Shiatsu. I don?t profess to be an expert but I have some knowledge, which I want to share with you.

The various techniques of shiatsu are simple but can also have great impact. We all know of the healing power of touch, which began in our childhood with statements such as ?mummy will rub it better?, well shiatsu is just another form of touch.

Shiatsu, which originated in Japan, uses the power of touch and pressure to assist in both emotional and physical healing. A definition of shiatsu, which was passed on to me, is ? ?the healing art of shiatsu uses physical pressure and meridian stretches to work on the body?s energetic systems to promote health and spiritual well-being?. Great definition but for some it may be a little difficult to fully understand so I will try to make things a little clearer.

Shiatsu basically uses the power of touch and pressure to assist the body heal itself. This is done by the practitioner using pressure via thumbs, fingers, elbows, knees, feet etc to provide very deep relaxation, which in turn gives a feeling of well-being. It has some similarities to the art of acupuncture, which works on the body?s energy system made up of a network of energy pathways.

It is said that energy called Ki, in Japanese, flows throughout the body like rivers and canals. There may be blockages to these rivers and canals, which in turn causes a variety of weaknesses creating physical symptoms.

Shiatsu makes use of pressure at certain points on the body along these energy pathways and tries to unblock these areas. Shiatsu is also a very practical form of touch as it can be performed without the removal of clothes. It also does not require any special equipment other than a mat or blanket to lie on.

Someone who knows the basics of shiatsu can help to ease general aches and pains. In Japan it is widely used as a home treatment and it is becoming more prevalent in western society, as it can do a great deal to strengthen relationships and relieve the stress of modern day life.

Shiatsu like other natural therapies is more concerned with preventative measures by keeping the body healthy, flexible and in balance. Stretching exercises and points to press on various parts of their body may be homework given to the patient to assist their body get back into balance. I have been told that shiatsu is very good in treating headaches, back pain, muscular stiffness and some forms of arthritis. It can also help treat the digestive, circulatory, respiratory and reproductive systems.

Like many other disciplines shiatsu has its own history during which individuals have developed their own styles. Today?s shiatsu encourages people to be more aware of their body and emotional state and to also treat themselves. The emphasis is on finding the underlying cause of the health problem and seeking to influence it through the body?s energy pathways. There are more and more people looking to this as an alternative to taking pills, which as we know can create other side effects when introduced into the body.

People who have had a shiatsu treatment state that they feel very relaxed and invigorated with increased get up and go. Others have said that they had a sense of well-being and peace. Practitioners have stated that they are only the catalyst that guides the body, mind and spirit to stimulate the patient?s self-healing.

Massage and shiatsu have a common ground as they both use touch to encourage the body to let go, relax and commence regenerating itself. Both techniques if used by a person with knowledge and experience can bring relief to others sometimes in a way, which is unexplained by today?s science.

Often students of shiatsu begin as patients and upon finding that it provides a framework for self-understanding decide to study it and become a practitioner.

I hope that I have been able to provide you with an insight into what shiatsu is and what it can do. In essence shiatsu works simply and gently by using the bodies own energy system to heal itself. As you can see the power of touch has many forms but in essence it can be used to great effect to improve our own lives as well as that of our family and friends.

    To your healing powers.
